In all this discussion about female nudity, you have hardly touched the surface as far as classical art goes. Modigliani and Degas were mentioned. What about Renoir, who did many nudes (some of his own wife), Goya, who did a classic nude (the "Maja") of his mistress who was married to a Count (?), Manet, who did the classic nude on a chaise, etc, etc. Of course, many of these stirred up a hornets nest when their paintings were first shown in Paris and places like that, though many of those paintings are now in the Louvre in Paris. I think that artists have been painting, or drawing the female nude ever since the first cro magnon learned that he could draw on the cave wall with a burnt stick. A few bluenoses are hardly likely to stop this.
Thread: Trans-mapped Hair Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, Momcat, for the excellent tutorial. It helped me to understand some things I had not gotten into in about two years of using Poser.

Thread: Trans-mapped Hair Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, I will concede that the transmapped hair has more of a realistic look, certainly better by far than the original hair objects offered. Which leads me to a question, which I almost hate to ask, but I'm curious. I understand that the "old" hair was a "solid" object with texture and the better the texture, the more realistic look. But the transmapped is obviously not a "solid" object. Very briefly, how is it constructed? (No long details, just a layman's description, if that is possible.)

Okay, but I have hair objects by both Koz and Kyoko that look (to me) quite realistic, without being transmapped. I guess it just depends on what you're doing your art for. I find the Kyoko hair really quite realistic, especially since it comes with a lot of morphs to change the style, etc. Thanks for your answer and the pics.

Concerning all the raves about "good news" for us Mac users, not so fast! Not all of us Mac users rushed out to buy OS X, being quite happy with OS 9.whatever. Just like some of us didn't rush out to buy Vicky 3 and so are being left out by the onslaught of Vicky 3 items hitting the free stuff pages. Some of us like things like they WERE, and are not in such a hurry to change to the "latest and greatest" software the minute it comes out. Too bad there are not some designers out there who take all this into conseration.
Thread: Using different texture on a character? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, but have you set up a pose where the woman is, for example, seated and bending over, as in putting on her shoes? I don't know about Vicky, but the Poser 4 woman will keep the convexity (inward curve) of her backbone, which is not what we humans really do in that pose, where Eve does the real thing - her spine first straightens out, then begins to bend outward - realistically. That was one of the first things I noticed that was different.

I haven't seen Victoria 3, so I have to ask how she is more realistic than Eve? I can find virtually no fault with the look of Arduino's Eve, or with Azura. And how do they not pose as well as Victoria? Educate me.
Thread: Using different texture on a character? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the responses, but I have a Mac, so the UVMapper Pro approach won't help me. Looks like I'm stuck with doing a texture over manually, using Painter. I continue to be puzzled by the lack of interest in the Eve and Azura figures, as opposed to Vicky, which I do not care for at all. Just a personal opinion of mine.
Thread: Decoding Texture File ??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
lmckenzie, it's a beautiful texture. That's why I wanted it. I'm on a Mac G4, so some of what you suggested may not apply. It is a big file (I'm on 35K). The temporary file bit may still work, if I can figure out what to look for. May be something.jpg. Thanks for your response.
Thread: Foreign Languages | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Right on, Imckenzie and Jobcontrol! I think that is imperative that when we write anything to those with whom we are not familiar, or even acquainted, we use carefully selected words to properly express our thinking. That is, of course, the mark of a good diplomat, and is something the rest of us should practice. It is difficult enough to get your meaning across sometimes when standing face to face. That difficulty is multiplied many times in written communications, especially when you get into technical discussions, like how to do something in Poser. (See, I managed to bring the discussion back to art and graphics.)
Thread: Foreign Languages | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It has bothered me over the years to see the de-emphasis on learning a foreign language in American universities. A few years ago, when I was going through in science, at least one foreign language was mandatory. I took three years of German, even reading Faust in German. In graduate school, I had to do a second language and chose Russian. Seemed like a good choice at the time. Now it seems that no one is compelled to learn another language in our schools. Sad. By the way, there were comments about "Scottish" English. That is one of my very favorite things - to listen to a true Scotsman. It is a lovely variation on English.

Thanks for all the responses. Problem is that I got a "did not find" on sam3d and on mec4d I could not find any free stuff. Very slow loading. And I'm not a Poserworld subscriber. Thanks anyway.
Thread: Where do you buy models online? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Re: Snoopy101's comment about credit cards, that's the thing that I think keeps me from buying any models over the internet. There is so much credit card fraud and chicanery out there that I can't take the chance. That's unfortunate, because there is some good stuff out there offered for sale. I've also bought a couple of things that did not work properly, and had a tough time getting a refund. Maybe someday someone will figure a way to stop credit card fraud. Hope so.
Thread: Poser 5??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the responses. Obvioulsly, whether or not I want to, I'll have to wait for a Mac version. Not a bad idea, considering the number of "bugs" that people are talking about in P5. One thing I can't quite figure out - EULA. My guess is that the "LA" part is "legal agreement", but those have been around since the first software sale, so what's all the fuss about? Is there something new in this one?
