Thanks, Dagon. My weblink to Studio Maya went bye-bye some time ago. Didn't really need the URL for Curious Labs, since I run both Poser 4 and Poser 5.

If the zip file is set up with the paths already in it, just unzip it to XYZ:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 5; if not, the internal file structure for Poser 5 is identical to Poser 4. You are correct, the PNG in Poser 5 serves the same purpose as the old .rsr file; however, Poser 5 will read .rsr files from Poser 4. Note that you don't need both a PNG and an .rsr for a library file. Just delete the larger of the two. Right now, the Install feature of Poser 5 isn't fully supported. Curious Labs hopes to correct this very soon.

Of the Windows 9x versions, Windows ME is probably the most stable. Kernel32.dll is a dynamic link library file used by the 32-bit side of the Window ME operating system. Kernel32.dll is corrupted (it happens in windows 2000, too). Quick fix: and log on to Microsoft's Windows Update site. Click and the web site will "read" the ME installation to see which updates need to be applied. Download and install the latest/newest "critical update" package. Each "critical update" package has a copy of kernel32.dll. Else, you can the Windows ME CD for kernel32.dl_ and then run EXPAND to the file location on the CD, which will install a fresh copy on your hard drive.
Thread: Gallery guidelines question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
'Rosity has reasonable guidelines. However, if your work pushes the "decency" envelope for 'Rosity, try www.renderotica.com and www.thralldom.org. Both have slightly "less restrictive" guidelines than 'Rosity, which may or may not be a good/bad thing.

One other thing to check is to make sure you've got the latest drivers for your video card. Microsoft DID NOT test all video drivers with XP prior to releasing XP. I had the same problem and it turned out that the video drivers for the ATi Radeon card included with XP were the problem. I went to ATi's website and found they had new drivers for XP posted. I donwloaded and installed them and the problem went away. XP WILL initiate a reboot if the system is using a "bad" video driver. Microsoft has recognized the bug in the kernel source code and is planning to include a fix in Service Release/Pack 1, due out this spring.
Thread: Need help creating a .rsr thumbnail | Forum: Poser Technical
Piece 'o cake. Render. Save as a MacIntosh .PICT image file (be sure image resolution is square, i.e., 300X300). Open Image in Photoshop and INVERT the alpha channel. (Actually, any paint program that allows you to manipulate the alpha channel will work.) Click the (first) color channel. In the paint program, resize the image to 91X91 pixels and save. Download and install "RSR Converter." Run RSR Converter. Open the PICT file in the first box and specify the .rsr file (and path) in the second box (.rsr file should have exact same name as the .cr2). Save. Warning: the Mac Poser version CANNOT "read" the .rsr file, but it's there. Bundle the .rsr with the .cr2 file and it's now PC ready. I do it alla time.

Check out Nerd's "Conforming Clothing Figures." The URL is: www.theworks.com/~nerd/Tutorial/ConformingPrint.htm. Also, check out the Tutorials section here on Renderosity. Used to be a couple of good tutorials on this topic there. Nerd didn't place any restrictions on redistribution for his tutorial, so if you can't find it, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.
Thread: Trouble loading more than 2 characters into Poser...HELP! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Had the same problem. Solution that works for me is to load the 3rd (4th, 5th, etc) figure/model, render, Save As a .pz3 file and low-res .jpg (25%, which I delete later). Close Poser completely and then reload Poser. Import the .pz3 file and all the invisible body parts are now visible. Works only with Win 2000 Pro/Server and NT. Win 9x requires a complete restart of the O/S. Seems there are "disagreements" on memory usage sometimes between Poser and W2K, NT, and 9x. Just shutting down Power will clear up the memory dispute in W2K and NT, but 9x requires a complete restart.

Depends on how much you want to spend versus the minimum performance you want. Celerons are good processors and are slightly "faster" than equivalent Pentium processors (II and III) because of the onboard L1 cache. If you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket, go with a Pentium III (choose a motherboard based on Intel's i840 chipset though and not the i810 or i820) or an Athlon. Actually, a 450Mhz Pentium II, 256Mb of SDRAM will run Poser like a champ and leave you money for an Oxygen 3D video card (the Oxygen 3D video cards cannot be beat for rendering 3D graphics and is the card of choice for CAD professionals). For an operating system, insist on Windows 2000 Professional. Poser will run faster and better on a dual-processor motherboard, even though it's not written to take advantage of a dual-proc system. Poser 4 runs almost twice as fast on my Tyan S1837 (two P-II 350Mhz processors) than it does on my Asus with a P-II/450Mhz proc. Actually, the operating system (Win 200 Professional) will split part of the load between multiple processors, as will the RISC processor on any of the Ozygen 3D cards. Caution: the Oxygen 3D cards are poor cards for games. You'll need something like a GEForce for games. R. Baldwin, MSCE Computer Wizardry Alexandria, VA

You know, it doesn't matter whether you put textures that go with specific .xx2 files in the Textures folder and then tell the program where to go find them, or place them in the appropriate Geometries folder - the ...PoserRuntime is still going to fill up (I have a dedicated 3.4 gigabyte SCSI HDD just for Poser and it has 2.1Gb of files in it after a year and I use 90% of those files in any given week!). I just like putting xx2-associated texture files in the same geomerty file that the principal .obj file goes in because then the basic texture loads automatically. I just finished "reorganizing" my Texture folder for the third time, making it eaiser for me to find categories of textures when I need them at time.

Wacom has three models with liquid crystal display. All are available here in the D.C. area, but the cheapest starts at $499.95. Then, agian, this IS the metro D.C. area. Everything is expensive here.
Thread: Confomable clothing for Vicky | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I sure there is, but it probably involves either Rhino 3D or 3D Max, both of which cost in excess of $200. What I have done is use Victoria (version 4.03) and then load the P4 woman's clothing. Since most of it is fully conformable, I use the clothing's morphs to adjust it to fit. If there isn't a particular morph I need, I look for one and add to the clothing. While Vicky is nice in most respects, I find that I use the Ultramorph Woman 2 or Eve (version 3.2) for 95% of my female characters. They are, of course, based on the P4 nude woman.

Most of us add our e-mail address somewhere in the readme file. Check there and e-mail the maker of the boots. One thing you can do is try turning off Inverse Kinematics for both the right and left leg and then try conform to.
