Thread: Moving Poser 7 Runtime to NEW Windows 11 Computer and Poser 11 Installation | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
hborre posted at 9:15 PM Mon, 23 May 2022 - #4439010
I was able to copy those "old" files into my stand-alone old Poser 7 Runtime (which is not installed in the Poser 11 program folder). I accessed my Poser 7 Runtime in Poser 11 and it appears that all my files are now there! I was able to load one of my "original" M4 figures with no issues! I can't thank you enough for your help!!!I'm glad that you were able to locate those files. My recommendation is to stay away from installing anything to the Program Files and just build a separate runtime folder in a shared area to avoid complications. If your customs are dependent on morphs or OBJ files you may need to rebuild those pathways again. That means a lot of editing so let's hope that you are spared that major headache. At least, nothing was permanently lost.

Just so you know, THIS WORKED, at least so far! I was shocked to discover that my self-produced content was NOT in the program folder, but in this "outside" folder. I am in the process to copying it to an external drive. If that works, I will attempt to install it on the new computer, using the same pathway, so hopefully, they will populate in my external runtime.Digging further, the pathway that should be as follows: C:\Users\Users Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\MyApplication. This is based on Windows Vista when UAC and Virtualization were first implemented. The pathways may have changed since then due to version updates. But at least this is a starting point. Again, I can't pursue this further because I don't store anything original content in the Program Files folder.
I promise to follow up with my findings.

I did that. All my Poser 7 runtime came over EXCEPT my self-created content. I want to know how to move my SELF-CREATED CONTENT, please.

I installed P6 and added my P5 runtime and P6 won't load my P5 saved figures from my figure folder. I had James loaded in the window, tried adding a D3 figure and P6 locked up. Any suggestions?

Doc, the shadow lites are in the list. Raven, I don't know what you mean by having the ground plane "enabled." I downloaded some free sets and floors and I'm going to try that next. Thanks, guys! Ricardo

Thank you very much for the clarification, Doc! Unfortunately, it didn't work in either Firefly or Poser 4 Render. I checked my light settings and even added the depth map shadows to another light in the set to make sure. I can't imagine what I'm doing wrong. Ricardo

I tried your method, Doc, and it didn't change anything. I still can't render ground shadows. I even have the "cast shadows" box checked. Another tutorial that someone suggested via PM says that the ground shadows are simply guides and WILL NOT render, and that separate shadow files have to be made on transparencies (???) and inserted into the file. I am using a background image in my poser file, so I can't replace the background, I am just trying to get shadows to display on the ground plane. If you want, I'll do a screencap for you of my material room after I got the thing set up, just to make sure I did it right. thanks, ricardo
