Sharkey, awesome stuff as usual. I've been working hard on creating something interesting with your Giger Bar scene. Awesome models!

Ghost, I would check again. As far as I can learn from Apple's website you can use standard IBM harddrives for your mac. As long as the machine is fairly new and doesn't use soem sort of completely obsolete format. Any Ultra DMA/ATA 33 or 66 harddrive should work just fine. Which means that you can go purchase the 99 dollar harddrive and have plenty of space. Just to be on the same side, email Apple's Support and ask them what kind of harddrives you can use in your rig. That should clear up any misunderstandings. Regards Ronin

I may be sounding really stupid here, but can't the macs use the same harddrives as the pc's??? Remember the harddrives aren't preformatted when you buy them. You have to do that your self.

Cool, this is the Chapel from 3DCafe, right??? But you retextured it and redid the stained glass...Very nice! I agree with Ironbear with the possible alterations. Great image even without these alterations. regards Ronin P.S. Ironbear, thank you for your kind words about my picture.
Thread: Bryce - for modelling? Or rendering? | Forum: Bryce
Bryce is a very excellent renderer, but when it comes to realism and atmospheric effects, I have found other programs that produce better results quicker. Most notably in my opinion is Terragen, that produces very realistic lighting in landscape scenes, yet renders faster than Bryce. Ofcourse, Terragen is still in development, but judging from what they have listed as future features, it may well end up kicking Bryce's arse. I still like Bryce for it's ease of use and it's many features, but a more comprehensive water system would also be appreciated and a faster render when using volumetrics. I have at times been doing scenes that took more than 24 hours to render on a PII 450 with 512 megs of ram! Hopefully these things will be added in Version 5. Is there any ETA on Bryce 5 yet???

Ok, one thing first: I was not particularly targetting Tmoss as a person. I just have a problem when people (see, plural?!) start with the "nudity is demeaning" rant. I did read the thread and I did see that Tmoss apologized, but this was never meant as a personal attack on you, Tmoss. I apologize if that is the way I came across. In my own, twisted little way, I was trying to make a point. Or rather state a question...Or maybe both?! I happen to think the female body can be one of the most beautiful things on Earth. And damn right, I like to look at naked women. There is no way anybody can ever make me embarrassed about that. I'm a guy! Guys, unless they're gay or prudes, like to look at women. Correct me if I'm wrong here! It's an instinct for gs to like women, and we are still, like it or not, animalistic enough for instincts to play a large role in our lives. And to set one thing straight: I do not look at women as merely objects. She can be the most beautiful woman in the entire world, with breasts that could make a grown man cry, but if she's a blithering idiot with the IQ of a wet brick; I wouldn't touch her with a barge-pole!!! There has to be a person behind the pretty mask. But that doesn't mean I can't get to drool over purdy pictures:) Ok, enough with the rant. I hope I cleared up a few things, but knowing my usual luck with these things, I've probably muddied the waters a bit too. I apologize if I offended anybody, and that goes double for you, Tmoss. Sometimes, it seems that I am, by nature, an offensive person... Well, it's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it, right?! regards Joshua

Gooood stuff, Jeff. That's an impressive piece of work! I know I probably shouldn't comment on this, but I just can't help myself:) Since when has nudity become demeaning??? What is more natural than being nude? And no, I am not a nudist: I'm unfortunately just as socially handicapped as the remaining 70-80% of the human race. Oh, sure, when we're talking abuse of children or women that perhaps have no other way to make a living, but in a piece of art like this??? There can never be anything demeaning about it! You are assuming that she comes from a culture that considers nudity as socially unacceptable. Are the natives in the Amazon jungle demeaned by the fact that their women wouldn't know what to do with a bra if they ever got hold of one?? What about all the other cultures that have a far more natural and relaxed view of the "exposure" of the human body. The story is supposedly about a supernatural humanoid creature that comes to Earth, So Jeff can make her wear what ever he wants. Hey, for that matter he could have a bunch of males running around in nothing but jockstraps if he wanted to. Nudity isn't gonna kill ya! Unless, you're stuck in a snowstorm with no clothes...No, nev'mind that. What I'm getting at is that if you don't like it, don't watch it. Yep, that's the way to do it, ignore the damn thing. It's a tried and true method used by humanity since the dawn of time! Sorry about the rant, but I just get annoyed when people show up with those 17th century attitudes. No offense:) Regards Joshua "We are born naked, wet and hungry; then things get worse! But with a little luck and a bit of careful planning, we might get to die naked:)"

In my book there is only one CD-R burner that has the reliability that I require, and that's the Plextor 820Ti. Atleast I think that's the product code. Anyways, it's the one that burns at 8 speed, so it's one of the fastest burners on the market. It's SCSI, has 4 megabytes of internal cache memory which = reliability and it'll damn near burn on a slice of pepperoni! It's not cheap, and it requires a SCSI controller on the side, but it'll burn reliably for years, and it's cheaper than an external drive! Another thing about the media that you burn on, is that it doesn't pay to buy the cheapest no-name brand you can find. Shell out a bit more on decent media, like Verbatim, Pioneer, Kodak and soforth and your data will last alot longer! The cheapest ones have a tendency to A: Produce more failures when burning, and B: fall apart and get scratched terminally alot faster than the Quality brands! That's my 100$ Hey, I do this shit for a living and professional advice doesn't come cheap, you know! Hey, Pan, remember I did say "stopping and dispersing" the impact from the orbital cannon. That means that the impact is converted from kinetic energy to light, which results in a blinding flash of light brighter than the sun. That's the reason she's wearing the glasses:) Oh, and the light sabers in Star Wars actually do taper to a point, although not a completely pointy point if you know what I mean:) Aww, what the heck, watch one of the movies again and take good long look at the sabers. You'll see what I mean. Regards Ronin
Thread: Light Sword 2 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hehe, almost forgot something. Neat sword! Hmm, could you make it taper to a thinner point perhaps? That's what the ones in the movies do anyways... Regards Ronin

I would have you know that that particular shield is made from a valency-bonded boron-plasteel composite and is capable of stopping and dispersing the kinetic impact of a 300 mm orbital kinetic cannon! deep breath So there:) Although, there is one slight drawback. The damn things transparent, so a pocket-sized laser pistol will go right through and cut you into ribbons... But hey, that's science-fiction for ya:) Regards Ronin
