Was the magazine 3DWORLD Magazine? If so, or if not, I recomend you keep buying it. It has some great tutorials, a Q & A section not to be missed, and every issue is full of demos and working programs. I love it. Great image! And no, you don't always have to have a head in the basket. It could be the beginning of the shift. :)

I'd recommed Allaire's HomeSite. It will help you learn the HTML coding as you use it to build your site. All of the above programs are great for web design, but it helps to have at least a basic understanding of HTML for the times when the prog can't do what you want.
