Just to return to the issue a moment, I'd like to second the proposal to be able to filter sections in the gallery (though Poser is my main interest here, and so I wouldn't be filtering that out). I've thought for a long time that this would be a good idea.

Isn't it bizarre that in the whole visual lexicon of animal imagery, the mouse and the rabbit are the most feared in terms of copyright infringement?

You picked a bad time to clone, permission or no. I've recently had to rename a celebrity clone at the request of Renderosity and Gwendolyn had her very popular clones pulled. I can only presume a 'cease and desist' letter has arrived at the Rosity offices recently and now the baby's going out with the bathwater.....

Thread: What's the deal with the Raquel V3 freebie? Does it work? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You can't copyright or trademark your basic physiognomy even in California. "Right to Publicity" is a MUCH greyer area. I think JenyK felt that the law was just too grey to risk a 'named' celeb resemblance, a blanket 'Just-In-Case' precaution, which I can understand.

I've been asked to rename it by Renderosity. It'll be back up this weekend, pending clearance, with a few new extras.

I haven't heard of it causing any problems, and it seems like about 3,000+ people have downloaded it by now, and I know for a fact that loads of people are using it happily because of the positive feedback and the renders posted. But I'm sorry to hear of it causing you problems. I'd like to hear from anybody else it gives problems to. The main cause of a crash with the morph is that the Delta files might have been unzipped to the wrong place. Their exact required position in Runtime is stated in the read-me. It's difficult to give any other advice without knowing your set-up and the state of your Poser installation, but you're welcome to contact me about it.
Thread: Cant see images on Renderosity | Forum: Community Center
Only other thought is that this kind of thing happened to me once with ad-blocking software. If you're on a PC you should do a search for your 'hosts' file; it won't have an extension usually, but you can open it with a basic text editor. If it has a bunch of URLs in there and Renderosity is one of them, that's your answer. Cancel it out and resave. If it appears again, then some software on your computer has a grudge against Renderosity!
Thread: Poser 5 export to .3ds | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Must be something else then - assuming you're using Poser 5 with the latest release SP, and C4D8.5...
Thread: Poser 5 export to .3ds | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hope it's not too off-topic for the thread, but since I installed Poser 5's last service update, Cinema4D refuses to import 3DS files that are exported from Poser, 'Unrecognised format'. Anyone else had this?
Thread: Anybody know what hapend to Gwendolyn's store? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
May be pessimistic, but I always thought it was only a matter of time for selling celeb morphs....I suppose my own celeb-related stuff will bite the dust soon, free or not. I love Gwendolyn's work though, one of the best texturers on the planet, and I hope it goes up again in some form.
Thread: BVH motions in V3 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Maybe it was a fluke, but I once managed to resolve this by applying the BVH motion to Posette and then substituting Vicky - there were no 'hunched' shoulders. I don't know if using the target-figure (these were old BVH files)as an intermediary stage would solve the problem entirely, but it worked for me at least once.
Thread: Z Brush 2 for creating Poser morphs - anyone tried? thoughts? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I used zBrush 2 to create 'Raquel' ( http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=775948&Start=1&Artist=twosheds&ByArtist=Yes )and I certainly couldn't have done it without zBrush. Creating morphs with zBrush for Poser is a breeze, it's just....silly how simple it is to create astonishing results. And the good news is that zBrush 2 has just come out for MacOSX too. But....you will need to curb your impatience, sit down with it for a couple of days and work through the amazing interactive tutorials, all scripted with the zScript language, and marvel as ghostly hands take hold of your copy of zBrush and show you wonders you didn't know home-computers could accomplish. When I first downloaded a trial copy of zBrush a year ago, I took one look at the interface and binned it. Very hasty. My desperate need for a good Poser morph-app bought me back to it and....the interface is utterly non-standard but if you give it a chance, you'll see there's method in the madness, and come to appreciate it -along with the rest of the program- as a work of genius. The online support and forums - www.pixologic.com- are really very very special, with frequent, daily intervention from the program's creators in forum threads to resolve difficulties, and countless free zScripts and other resources. If you have doubts about the software, check out the forums, it may convince you. You probably think I've got shares! I haven't, it's just good to see someone making a product this great and being so loyal to their customers.
Thread: New Gallery Feature | Forum: Community Center
Sorry if I was unclear. When you click on a gallery thumbnail, either the new page opens in the same browser window or a new browser window. Different parts of the renderosity site behave in different ways in this respect. Some clicks give you a new window by default, others just go to the link in the same window. My point was that the one place a new window SHOULD open, is when you click in the gallery section, i.e. the large main gallery that we all look at first thing when we log in. Reason is that these pages are fairly slow to load and they have HTML code eritten in them to prevent them being cached in your browser, which means that every time you go to the page, it has to load from scratch. So clicking on a new gallery entry you like and then pressing 'Back' when you've done becomes tediously slow. Whereas if the gallery entry had opened in a new window, you could just close the window. I understand why the 'no-cache' thing is in effect with the main gallery, but the feature I propose would aid the usability of the site IMO.
Thread: New Gallery Feature | Forum: Community Center
..now the only thing to implement is a Control Panel option that will let clicks on the gallery list open a new window. 'New' windows are the norm at Renderosity, and often undesirable IMO - yet the one place they would be the most welcome -in the main gallery list- they're not implemented. The gallery is hard or impossible to reload from cache, so pressing the 'back' button is currently tedious, and the only solution is to hold shift (or command on a Mac)or open an entry from the contextual menu.
Thread: Where are my pictures? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This is a horribly litigious society, where you only have to look at someone to give them whiplash. I'm amazed that all the Spiderman renders and copyright-infringing renders are still up here. They're non-profit-making and do no harm, and I think they should be up, but it only takes one Cease And Desist from Uncle Walt or Time Warner to turn your favourite bookmarks into 404 errors. Fact is such depictions are only allowed in the context of satire, at least under US law as I understand it, and it would be a pretty stupid company- particularly one based in a country as lawyer-infested as the US- that didn't watch its a*** in this respect.
That doesn't really exxonerate Renderosity, since it seems to have followed the 'Withering Vine' model for community websites, where rules are lax and everything's free and easy in the early days and EVERYONE comes to join, and then the scr*w gradually gets tighter and tighter. I've seen this happen so many times on the Net, and I'm sure you have too.
Of course the scr*w doesn't start getting tightened until people have really integrated the site into their lives, made friendships, etc, and then it's with a bitter heart that they have to migrate and start over in some other site where the vine is a bit lusher (at the moment).
Power corrupts!
