i was having a problem with crashes and decided to check my video card drivers (like a number of folks suggested), and found
a new driver for my nvidia 7800...i updated, restarted and now everything seems pretty good. no crashes and i am able to load
pz3's that go back to poser 5. i really like this poser 8 and am looking forward to the beta of poser pro 2010.

Thank you very much for the informative post. I've gone ahead and purchased the Poser 8 upgrade. It sounds like Smith Micro is giving serious consideration to the Poser Pro community, at least it sure looks like a good start.

i run poser 6, poser 7 and poser pro on a xp 64 with no problems...and i use lots of memory...
as i recall, poser 5 & 7 have a 2 gig memory limit...anyway...64 bit is the wave of the future...

there is a thread on this page talking about the benefits of a 64 bit operating system
and how it expands any 3 gig switch limitations.

for me, poser 7 is very stable and i do some very complicated renders in one pass.
an example would be a clothed v4.2 figure and 8 m3 figures w clothes and hair
and a snazzy stonemason backdrop. for my use, the xp 64 os and poser seven
have expanded my horizons mightily. and by the way, i just installed the 64 bit
system as a dual boot with an xp media center os on my c drive. it's not just a question
of memory...it's a balanced system that seems to do the trick...that is my experience
anyway...good luck

if you have a nice machine like you describe, why not dual-boot windows xp64 ? then you will have a nice increase in performance...(a bit faster, but much more complex
scenes)
good luck.

i've been running p7 and xp64 with multi cores and it's very, very fast...and i'm doing more complicated renders than ever before, and even they are fast. so far, so good.

i recently bought a new sony laptop and simply wiped the hard drive, researched the drivers, and installed xppro...the computer seems stable...worked it all out with tech
people at tiger direct store...very helpful. i have 64xp on my rendering machine and
it works fine...vista seems like a overly complicated and resource depleting os. good luck.

i have been running p7 on an amd 48x2 with 4 gigs of memory and xp 64 and have had darn few problems... if you already have a machine with the 32 xp you might consider a dual boot system.. mine is very stable. i have been rendering complex scenes and production is smooth. good luck.

my p7 is in xp pro 84 and runs great! render times are smooth with very few crashes.
i'm using 4 gigs of memory and with a little additional cooling it's smooth sailing.
good luck.

Thread: VISTA and POSER is a NO DEAL ...... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
i run poser seven on xp64 and love it. it's fast and clean. vista seems like it has lots of bells and whistles...that stuff eats up processing and memory...i like a lean machine.
xp64 is clean and works fine with a dual core processor...i will wait out vista for some
time.
