I know it's a late reply to this thread (the last one is more than a month ago), but I had to say "thank you".
This tool is easy to use, works smoothly and is astoundingly powerful.
This tool is great.
You are great, millighost.
Thank you again, very, very much.
Thread: Question on Bryce 6.3 | Forum: Bryce
Look, I'm no DAZ software expert (in fact, I'm no software expert at all), but I'd say that as long as you install to a different directory, same drive or not, it should be fine.

My personal experience is that installing 6.3 doesn't disrupt the functioning of 6.1 (as long as you don't install them in the same place/directory, it goes without saying).

I could "cut" this widget with a cube, but I had to ungroup the import group and set the spherical "notch" as neutral. I guess I was too optimistic saying it works.

You mean that you can't render them "Solid when boolean rendering"? On my PC it works - I can use the reimported meshes in further boolean operation,,,
EDIT: But mayve they don't behave properly... I don't know...

I don't know if this workaround is already known, however Boolen models can be cobverted to meshes in 6.3, saved to a file, loaded in 6.1 and then exported to external formats.

Mine was just a customer/final user consideration on a product, to share my experience with other customers/users. I'm not supposed to know how the development works. I just find this product, 6.3, too buggy for my tastes, I would have liked it released later but better, and I think I have the right to share this (however uninformed) view with other users. Just that.

6 posts, so what? It's what I'm saying different in any way if I have 6 or 6 thousand posts?
I'm glad that development is going on on Bryce, I just can't understand the general attitude to rush software out with such big holes in it, to patch it up later. Release it later, release it better. Just allocate more time to beta testing, otherwise all the trouble will be diverted to the users, and that's just absurd to me.

Quote - I happen to know that they use a dedicated team of very experienced Brycers who work extremely hard to find and report bugs and test Bryce in as many ways as possible.
I don't want to disparage people's work, but whoever tested 6.3 missed out that one of the highlighted features of version 6, boolean mesh export, stopped to work altogether, and that render times were noticeably longer. Either it was intended or not, but the result is that these conspicuous flaws have been discovered after DAZ told its users to download and install 6.3, falling, so to speak, on the users' shoulders.
I didn't pay anything for the upgrade from 6.1 to 6.3. I only wonder why it was released with such outrageous bugs. If it wasn't for my innate mistrust, I'd have 6.1uninstalled before installing 6.3, and I would be very pissed by now.

Speed test: two spheres, one glass, the other mirror, two planes, one checkered, one mirror (above).
2'34" in 6.3
1'31" in 6.1
Second test, same file, less reliable because I had the browser running:
2'51" in 6.3
1'39" in 6.1
Aw, come on! They must be joking! I mean, just don't release it!
Thread: Question on Bryce 6.3 | Forum: Bryce
I hate to sound distrustful, but I suspect they release new versions and then rely on public testing to straighten things out. The fact that boolean mesh export simply doesn't work any longer (that's not a "detail" one should miss before releasing something!) seems to somehow substantiate my suspicions.
I installed 6.3, but kept 6.1 installed. I'd advice to do the same, but I don't know if there is any drawback in doing so.
EDIT: I don't think they added anything significant (or anything at all?) to "content" (but I may have missed it) and I didn't do any "render speed test".
Thread: Question on Bryce 6.3 | Forum: Bryce
I've reported both my quirk and the mesh export issue. Hope there won't be any new surprises, but I'm afraid that's ony the beginning. Pity, the did fix the raster texture issues, and I was happy of that. It was a short happiness.
Thread: Question on Bryce 6.3 | Forum: Bryce
Ok, got the first quirk from 6.3 as well. In 6.1, I have a plane, preset material "Maple wood", texture woodbase4 scaled in Object space at X 138% Y 138 % Z 138%. I save it to a file and load it up in 6.3 and it became mapped in World space at X, Y, Z = 100. How come? I'm reporting this via Mantis... let's hope that glitches won't be popping up like mushrooms in the next days...
Thread: Question on Bryce 6.3 | Forum: Bryce
As far as I can remember, Bryce 5.x was a lot stabler than 6. I've been using 6.3 for some days and it looks stabler than 6.1.
