Hi... thanks :) Mesh topology is only important when you are considering animation, particularily organic models, as well perhaps should you wish to use a wire shot as part of a grafx, other than that it's pretty much whatever makes the shape and holds the textures... however that said, I kinda think that it is really important to learn good topology from the git go, and thus model always with that in mind, as it doesn't really take any longer to do a nice job as it does to just throw something together, and the end benifits always outweigh the alternative... I mean don't forget those nice animation properties, or those nice to llok at wires, which in turn assist others viewing, on just how to go about things right the first time around... happy modeling

Geez, I really wonder what's up with your system, that you find CS slow... I mean I have been using Carrara Studio for a couple of years now directly because not only do I like it's rendering, but more so when I was working with my celeron 266, Carrara was the only app which allowed me to assemble higher poly scenes without much difficulty... and that was with a 128 bit ATI 16 meg card... Then I got a celeron 400, and a slightly faster and larger but still cheapy hercules card, but still only had 192 megs of sdram on the system, and all was super... Now I have a quicker amd 2200+, with a cheapy 32 meg geforce 2 card, the gimped 128 bit model, and have but 256 megs of ddr, and Carrara really does rock all over all other apps for speed of moving things around when assembling scenes.... hmmm

ah, ok, that sounds somewhat reasonable... however considering the position Carrara is alongside so many other high end packages, I have to wonder whether or not offering Carrara at say half the price, and thus perhaps gaining twice, or even three times the userbase, would not amount to same proceeds or better... just a thought... Personaly I would love to see Carrara go all the way to the top of the heap, and would gladly pay a reasonable price for such to occur, but I could really care less whether I get Amapi or not, as I never use it... you know what I mean?

yea, boyo, this new CS4pro release looks very cool... albeit a tad expensive perhaps... I mean I currently have CS2, and even on the upgrade price... ouch... I mean the regular version would be the way to go for me except the part about motion blur, which I kinda feel should be in the regular version... I mean I really don't require networking etc, but I can see using the motion blur... just my 2 cents worth here :)

Well, I would like to go on record as suggesting that while I do think I will be upgrading to C4 pro for a few tools I look forward to playing with, I have also posted on this board before regarding my dissapointment that the modeling tools were imho less than what I would expect for an app I had to purchase... so I use Wings3d for my boxmodeling... no biggy... however, that said, I use Carrara Studio 2 for rendering, and I am now learning to animate with Carrara... I am having great fun with it... Infact I have just posted the terrific news regarding the release of C4pro over on a forum I moderate on... I cannot say that I agree with every method utilized within Carrara, or that I would ever consider to model anything in this app, but... for rendering I just think it is grande indeed... I don't really think I need anything else... and for animation, well... I viewed the green ninja sample posted by some beta tester, and wow... if I am ever able to animate remotely close to that then I will be one happy camper indeed... :D So there ya have it... am I less than another Carrara user simply because I don't use it for modeling? I don't think so... because I use Carrara most everyday for most every other function within the process of 3D... Happy 3ding all :)
Thread: Which is the best modeler? | Forum: Carrara
Wings3D is perhaps the best box modeler out there, and concidering it is free I would venture to say that it is the best value of any app on the planet... don't let it's sparce ui fool ya, Wings3D really does the job well... :)

model with Silo, and render with Carrara... sounds ok to me, just wish the price reflected this sort of scenario a bit better is all... ;)
