Subject: What's the deal with Victoria3 missing texture?..

A_ ( ) posted Fri, 03 January 2003 at 4:22 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 2:02 PM

For some reason, every time I save a pz3/4 file with fully textured V3 in it, when I try to open it later (that is, after I have closed it), Poser opens a "plase locate Victoria 3 jpg." I have no idea what it wants from me.:) I don't have any texture called "Victoria 3.jpg", and I never used one with such a name. So I press "Cancel", and then "no" on "do u want to continue looking for missing files", and then Poser just, basically, get stuck, and I have to shut it down with ctrl+alt+del. This happened with both texture packs I have for Vicki 3 - Daz's Universal Maps and spectre3's rose pack. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?...

Maybe there is an incorrect library reference. There is a utility in freestuff called "CorrectReference" that might be able to solve your problem.

Poser does that if you save the file to anywhere outside the PoserFolder. I get that all the time when I save scenes onto my desktop. Just a Poser thing. Poser wants everything to be in the Poserfolder so save your scenes there. We don't name our textures taht way. Are you using someone elses cr2? Mabey they saved it with that texture. Anton

When you save outside of Poser you will also be asked to save the scene in jpg format. Mine asked me to save in .tiff since that is my preferred format. Just click save. I do notice that when you reopen scenes you have to add your lights again or the render will be messed up. I also use my figures in Vue4 so when importing a Poser scene that extra jpg or tiff is needed.

That is strange. Is this P5 your using? I only have P4, and that never happens to me. I save my files in a WIP folder in Documents. Also if you double click on your Pz3, instead of importing it into poser, you will Have your saved lights. Tashar 59

I'm using P4. Thanks for the light tip!

I'm with you Tahsar, I save all of my Pz3's in a WIP document on a completely different harddrive then Poser 4...maybe it is a Poser 5 thing. The only time I get that type of a message (Poser 4) is when I have not converted a jpg file that is supposed to be a bum map. Once I've converted that file, I don't get that error message anymore. So I guess the question is, more info!! What version of Poser are you using, and that might help us a bit more with solving what is going on. Pendy

that never happened to me in Poser 4 even in Poser 5. I always save my Poser files in folders somewhere on my HD. It always keeps the textures and props and lights ... FlyByNight: << When you save outside of Poser you will also be asked to save the scene in jpg format.>> that is only for rendered images. Chris

Thank you all for the replies. Anton - I re-installed the Daz textures, and I think that solved the problem with those maps. But I still have that problem with the other textures (2 texture packs I downloaded from free stuff - Rose by spectre3 and Samantha by Nadshe). I'm using Poser 4 with the latest update, and I do save my pz3's file in another folder and on another drive, but I never had a problem like that before V3. So, as Anton suggested, I saved a file inside the poser folder, but it still wanted to find "Victoria 3.jpg". I then made a quick render of Vicki and named the jpg "Victoria 3" and placed it in the Texture folder. When I opened the other file, Poser found that "Victoria 3" jpg file and treated it as the missing texture file. It then applied the file on Vicki as if it was the texture map for every body part (the body, the face, the eyes and so on). (I'm posting the pictures to better explain myself...) Very weird........ :)

She used more than one map. At some point you have checked "Apply to entire figure". Just uncheck that box and reapply the MAT pose. Then all will be right in the world. :)

I have also seen that weird map thing where it is on the wrong part when my poser is being memory deficient but that is just swaping the textures and not putting the render on the body which is what seems to be happening. Never had it loose the textures when i saved it outside of the things (except for the memory issue in the old days) but I am also on a Mac.

Wierdness. I've never had any of these problems. Occasionally I get the save file as jpg thing, but since POser scenes are PZ3s, I always make sure that the file e xtension is correct when saving scenes. That also only happens when the render is in the main window. If you always render to a new window, or check your file extensions before saving your scene; then your scenes will save correctly.

Momcat, I haven't downloaded the CorrectReference utility, but that did give me an idea. (and now, by the way, I feel completely stupid because it's so simple and obvious). It seems that I put the textures under the wrong folder, and not the original folder the textures creators thought about... :) So I put it back in its right place, and everything is okay now. Sorry to bother all of you because of such a silly thing. :))
