THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Playing with lights in Bryce 4

I learned something interesting about light sources in Bryce 4 today. Apparently Bryce does not like it when you try copying a light and repositioning it. Nor does Bryce like it when you change the center point location of a light. But for certain types of alignment (ie: radial) the best trick is to offset the center... Anyhow, what I learned is that lightsource copies are more or less "duds" as far as control is concerned. However, by experimenting I found out the solution to this problem. Every newly created light that was not a copy worked fine. Which lead me to try using the matrix information for a dud on a freshly created light. I used the cut/paste matrix for positioning new lights and happily, it worked. However, the offset cordinates still have to be set back to match the absolute ones (or it casts upon objects funny.) But it's better than nothing.

Never noticed this particular bug when using Bryce 4. Definitely haven't seen it in Bryce 5. Anyone else?

Strange, but I use Bryce 4 everyday, and I've never had any of those problems whatsoever. Perhaps you need to install the update patch? I've created a few scenes that use the free light-cage setup from 'Rosity, and had no problem going through in layers and adjusting the lighting effects. Perhaps detail more what it is you're having a problem with? I'd like to know...

tjohn,
No, but I did get artifacts once using a
spotlight dome I did as an experiment.
Although the link directs you to the image I'm talking about, it will take a while to load unless you are on cable or something like that due to sheer the number of images posted in this thread. While you're waiting for the image to appear, might read the entire thread. It is a REALLY good shoe. (That's my Ed Sullivan Impersination) - TJ
