Well, I did it again, I made 2 versions of the same pic, and I like them both, but it seems redundant to post both in the gallery. We'll call this one "flesh", and the other one "ghost". I consider these to be finished works, not wips, I just can't make up my mind which is best. So please vote for one or the other and I'll tally the votes in a day or so and post the winner in my gallery. This is supposed to be a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. I looked at as many pics of him as I could to get as much of a likeness as I can with Poser and my meager talents. I'm going to call it "'Scuse Me While I Kiss the Sky" a line from his song, "Purple Haze"; the white bird is a nod to his song "Little Wing". Please wait until I get the second pic posted before commenting. (The Stratocaster is a freebie from 3D Cafe.)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Here's the other one. So is it "flesh" or "ghost"? Thanks for helping!

I prefer the flesh, not that I'm a zombie or anything. ;) And Hendrix rocks big time! "Don't know if it's day or night" His death was a big loss just like Joplin, Morrison and Lennon. I still don't understand how any one could die in their own vomit in an ambulance. The simple fact is that he was left to die under so called supervision.

By the way, I wanted the ground to look gray, dead, and dry to contrast with the sky which I wanted to be colorful and inviting as he rises up from the earth into the sky. And yes, the haze is purple (although it looks a little pinkish on the ground). :^)

I like the flesh one more, too. Nice expression, btw.

As you`re going for the slightly surreal, floating above the ground etc, I go for the Ghost. The only thing I would say, though, is that it looks more like Hendrix in the Flesh version. There is more definition in the face. Nice job.

TTops: I'm with you, mate! Jimi was murdered... I saw a film of him being taken out to the ambulance. He was on his back when everyone knows he should have been in the 'recovery'position....... However, I prefer 'flesh' although they're both very good. I very nearly bought that guitar, btw. that is, a left-handed version for obvious reasons. Which brings us to the argument......what did Jimi play? A restrung R/handed upside down or a l/handed right-way up? Standby for the rucksions.........LOL

Going on what I've read (quite a bit really), Jimi played right-handed guitars and restrung them upside down, playing them in the left handed manner (the majority of photos bear this out), but could pick up someone else's right-handed guitar strung rightside up to try it out, playing it left handed as well with the low toned strings at the bottom (Clapton, Jeff Beck and others have said as much in interviews) playing it just as well. He apparently picked up this ability so that he could play any guitar lying around, without having to restring it. Left-handed guitars were then rare, and expensive, so Jimi's choice in guitars was a matter of economics, really. He's playing a right-handed guitar strung rightside up in this pic, because I felt that it wasn't that noticeable to most viewers, making it more trouble than it would be worth to change it, since he could play it that way. Another left handed guitar player (a personal hero of Jimi's) was Albert King (known for "Born under a bad sign"), who played right-handed guitars upside down, but never restrung them in the left-handed manner. Both Albert King and Hendrix were heroes of Stevey Ray Vaughn, who was right-handed, but so interested in learning all he could about Hendrix's tone and technique that he actually had his whammy bars mounted on top of the whammy to be able to work the note bending with the whammy in the same way as Jimi.

Another side note on another left-handed player is Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, who learned to play guitar as if he was right-handed (the classic method being that your good hand was used to pic and strum with fingers of your strongest hand, and fret notes with the weaker hand.), Knopfler did the opposite, fretting notes with his strong left hand. I suppose this is why he can bend notes with such strength and precision. An excellent player IMHO.

I also vote for the flesh version. Terrific job with the posing. I'm not a guitar player, but it looks like he is actually playing, not that you just put his hands in the right area. Lin

Thanks for the info about Jimi. I still remember the first time I saw the "Woodstock" movie, and Jimi playing on that last morning - what a rush. I prefer the first, flesh picture.
