Subject: a not-so-newbie question

I've used poser for a couple of years now and, naturally, have compiled a huge library of stuff. Done all the usual things to reduce the scrolling time through these libraries, including moving mat files to camera section, etc. On a whim, I did a google search for poser tutorials, and came across this site. Near the middle of the page is a screen shot of what appears to be CL Poser 4 (not pro-pack) with a folder list shown in 4 columns, rather than the one column I've been used to. Have I missed something all this time which makes this possible? Doesn't appear to be composited. I have an e-mail out to this person, but I thought that a question here might get a faster response.

Would be neat if this was possible, but I think it's a composite image. Note how there seems to be a ridge just to the left of the "normal" column and not between the others. I'd say it's cut-and-pasted together. Too bad... it would have been SO NICE if it was possible. sigh

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Would be nice. very nice. My biggest peeve is I can't get all the text in the libraries to display at 800x600 I hate working in 1024x768, even with a 17".

that silly mailer-daemon sent my email back to me. after changing the resolution on this monitor and re-examining that shot, I think you're probably right, ernyoka. what a tease.

I've heard that used to happen in Win95. Once Win98 and up arrived, you got the scrolling single column. Many people begrudged the change. I'm sure there are possibly very old threads about it. Here's alink to a very old thread about it.

so that may be why.... It can grow to six columns wide and I never knew that it wasn't that way for everyone... Guess I will keep my NT... it would be interesting to know if Windows 2000 gives you back the multi column list since it was based on Windows NT..

I've used Poser on Win'98, NT4 and 2000, but as far as I remember this automatic list folding was only a feature of NT. The body part list used to do the same, which was also very useful. This is a user interface thing, I think, and Windows 2000 is more like 95/98 in that respect. It's the deep down stuff like hardware abstraction and file system security which are inherited from NT.

Under XP you can get the cascading menus on the Start menu. But it doesn't affect poser. However I've seen other programs that had the cascading menus too. Under Win95 it was automatic system wide to do it this way and NT does it that way too. Win98 introduced the scrolling menus which have followed to Win2K and XP and you can get the cascading ones back for the Start Menu. I think it's hit or miss getting them in specific programs though. Probably has to do with how the programmers call the function.

yeah, I figured I couldn't hurt anything (I hope) by trying the fix suggested at the bottom of the thread in raven's link, but that didn't change anything for me. I'm using XP, but I really don't know enough about it to go in and try to change things myself. Oh well, back to scrolling, dammit. :P~~~
