Subject: Poser4/Vue Bundle

Does anyone know when CL added this option to their product list? I suppose it was 5 minutes after I purchased Poser 5! :) When I looked before Christmas, I only recall seeing the Poser 4 for $419, which is why I purchased Poser 5 for $300. Maybe I'm just getting old and missed it, but I think I would have gone for the Poser 4/Vue bundle for a $1 more than Poser 5, as I use Vue regularly. I'm still hopefull that there will someday be a way to interface P5 with Vue. Oh well!!

Yeah, it's a pain. Vue will import .pz3 files if you have Poser 4 on your system. It must be Poser 4, not Poser 5. You're other option is to export the scene as an object, then import it into Vue. You'll have to manually apply the textures though. Be sure you aren't using P5 hair though, it doesn't import well at all. Looks like a solid object. I bought the P5 upgrade, and decided to keep my P4 install as is. Good thing too. I didn't find out until later that Vue had to be able to find the P4 code to import. Contact CL and see if there's anything that can be done about it. That's about your only hope.

Yup, I've been doing the object export thing. Also using Vue to create the environment and then saving my poser model/props as a .tiff. The only problem there is the shadows. And the postwork becomes more elaborate. I've also experimented with using the Vue environment image as a background for the Poser scene. I prefer exporting the objects as an .obj, but you lose some of the realism in the eyes. I've contacted CL a number of times. I think they have (or had) plans to work with Eon to try and solve the problem, but in view of the shakeup, who knows. At least I'm better off than I was before I got Poser! Prior to that I had to rely on products containing .obj files or .3ds files that I could import into Vue and doing anything with characters other than those that came with Vue, was next to impossible.

They've added Poser 4/trueSpace and Poser 4/BodyStudio bundles to the list also, as a result of their newfound alliances.

Once again I bought software at the wrong time. I grabbed Poser 5 and World Builder 3, cost me close to $750 dollars, yes thats 750. WB is totally useless to me, now poser 5 works but it took few months. I think I'm gunna hold off til end of '03 before buying another package, I'm tired of missing deals, buying then having the price lower etc. Least it's good to me anyway that CL is working with others, and that bundles are out there, artists without the tools can get um cheaper and have more for their dollar. Just wish I had been one of those artists.

Dang MachineClaw, woulda been nice too. Poser 4 and Vue 4 work together beautifully. Laurie

I knew it!! Son of a gun!! Well....it sounds like they plan to continue their efforts to integrate Poser 5 with Vue, so I suppose I should be glad about that! I just wish they would have "celebrated their plans for continued partnership" on December 20 instead of January 20!! :) Story of my life: "a day late(in this case 30 days early!).....$300 dollars short" :)

This is a great combo, If you have any doubts go look at Renderosity's Vue gallery!

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 1:48 PM

I agree :). I remember the first time I used Poser 4 with Vue 4 - pulled in a .pz3 file and had my doubts while I was doing it too - but the truth is that the mesh is smoother with a .pz3 than it is if you import it as an object. And the added benefit is that you can set up a whole scene in Poser first, say with some figures and some of MnD sets, and the whole thing imports right into Vue with textures, bumps, trans and all. Ahhhhh.... Laurie

I heard earlier today that there were Vue will soon work with Poser 5. I agree that the .pz3 import feature is a big plus. Here is a quick one of Nadya in some armor imported into a Vue scene I was working on. Mo tweaking of any materials or anything in Vue No Postwork on this WIP Tom
