Subject: Can U Alter Poser figure elsewhere and bring it back and work?

My co-worker has exported a poser figure to another 3D program like Lightwave or Canoma to morph the figure by moving the vertex points around (push, pull, etc.). He is looking for a tutorial, help or advice on how to bring it back to Poser and it still work with the poses. pigfish

Oops, I meant Carrara NOT Canoma.

Steve Shanks wrote an excellent tutorial on how to make morphs using Anim8or. The same principles apply to other 3D modeling programs. http://interneteye3d.com/Tutorials/2000/sept/posermorph/default.asp

Thanks, pdxjims. I think I actually tried using this tutorial with Anim8or (I only get Poser and Photoshop at work.). Unfortunately, I have a brain which isn't hardwired for good spatial ability. I simply cannot "see" the 3D image which is supposed to be created from the 3 flat planes. Drafting class and I did not get along very well.

At the top of this page, click on the link for tutorials, then the link for offsite links, then on the search link to search for "Carrara" or "Lightwave." You'll get a number of results, from which you can pick ones that make sense to you.

If all you're doing is moving stuff around, not adding or deleting, you could probably just edit the cr2 to reference the new obj file. I've never done it. Just my guess.

Correction: If you're not addng or deletng, and only moving vertices around, you probably want to built morph targets. If you are actually adding to the geometry and/or removing from the geometry, you will have to make a new OBJ and point a copy of the CR2 to that.

dogger, the morph target route would give 'em more flexibility with the single character, but the cr2 method would work too...only they wouldn't be able to revert to the previous chracter, right? Like I said, I've never done this before. ;)

Palboze: The MT route would be more easily distributed as a normal character. However, if they built MTs for their new figure it would certainly be possible to use the new figure with as much flexibility.

Thanks dodgemeister :)

No worries B^) (Hey, I'm getting good at being subtle about the name thing! Cool!)
