Subject: Library thumbnails show 'dots', not rendered objects??

All the textured objects that I've been adding to my props library are showing up untextured and, if they have trans maps, as the 'cloud of dots' rather than as the rendered object that I have on the screen....? Yet other objects are in there correctly, which means I must have trashed a few more brain cells since I added them....! Since I can't for the life of me remember the method I used then :( And I'm running into the same problem when I try to replace the 'shrugging guy' (who is taking over my libraries, I swear!) And it shouldn't have anything to do with .rsr's since I'm on a Mac.... What am I doing wrong?

Nothing at all. That's how they show up when you use transparencies because Poser is taking a screen shot of the pre-rendered document. For the textures, make sure you're in the correct viewing mode before loading it into your library,

Another way to make the it is to render it, then paste it to the background. Then move your camera on the X axis not the object, til it is out of the picture. Then save it and Poser will use the background for the thumbnail. This way the transparencies won't be a problem.

To make a thumbnail that shows the transparency of an object, you need to use the rendered image as your thumbnail. I have a small tutorial on my website. Feel free to check it out. --John

I think my dear departed brain cells knew how to do Lovely Lady's method (it sounds familiar), but heck, I might as well try something new! Thank you, all :)

Or you can just use File->Export->Image to save an appropriately sized (91x91) render as a .png or a .rsr (in P4) without needing to use external programs or additonal props. Bill

Aha! Thanks, Bill. I was asking a similar question a while ago and got some complicated but usable answers. Your method is obviously the simplest and best!

So far as I can remember, P4 allowed RSR file formats to be exported (I haven't used it in a while, though) and ProPack allows PNG exports, but not RSRs. The only problem is if you are trying to produce stuff for P4 users with ProPack, as you then do need an external Program to create the RSRs. Bill
