Subject: Newbie!

The subject says it all! I am a 100% bonafide newbie to 3D computer art! I currently bought me a copy of Poser 4 with the Pro Pack...I was going to get Poser 5 but everyone told me it had too many problems and Poser 4 was more worth the money... I just hope I didn't make a mistake heh...So I open my new pow-ah tool and everything looked pretty simple...well nope...I was wrong...I REALLY want to learn this software...so I suppose what I am asking is where there is a tutorial for me that will get down to the very basics...I do mean as basic as possible...and maybe gets a little bit into the Intermediate...i have the art talent but I do not know the skills of the process...so can anyone help me out here? I looked at the tutorials here but I don't see how they are going to be very helpful until I know SOMTHING about Poser4 Power Pack! Any information would be greatly appreciated! I am wanting to get into Fantasy Artwork in case you can point me into any directions to tutorials that is my Fantasy oriented too that would be great! Thank You!

You're in one of the best places to learn about Poser :) There's loads of tutorials here. But I'll point you towards Ron Knights & his website, he has some of the best tutorials directed towards complete beginners. Also come here & ask questions, lots of questions :) you'll be amazed how quickly you get the info you need. Welcome to the wonderful world of Poser addiction ;)

Having only started with this just under a year ago, I would suggest with learning things in steps, since there is so much to this software. My interest was in making textures for the models, so I studied that part of it and got that part all figured out before i went on to posing....then I started with lighting, etc. That is what kept the whole thing from becoming too overwhelming for me. Once you figure out where you want to start..then you can be directed more easily to appropriate tutorials :) Rawnrr

I just checked Ron's site and it works. However, there is some bad news. Unfortunately, it happens too often these days. I hope he doesn't mind that I posted this announcement. He can't come here to speak for himself. "I regret to inform you that the tutorials have been removed due to potential costs related to excessive bandwidth. I am in the process of re-evaluating the direction of this site, and many sections have been removed pending final decisions. At this point I am also facing some other vital personal challenges, and this web site has the lower priority. If things go badly, the site will disapper totally. Thanks to everyone who made this Poser experience bearable for a time, and to those who appreciated the humble offerings I tried to provide. Ron Knights"

Don't forget there are lots of tutorials posted here. Just do a search on Poser and look for beginner topics. If you have specific questions, you can first do a search in the Poser Forum, and if you don't find anything, or need more explanation, just post your question here. There's lots of helpful people, and we always like to draw newbies into our insanity (evil laughter in background). ...and welcome!

Nu-be, (and pharsyde) 'you can type a '0' into the numeric value for the dials, and that particular parameter will undo itself' Even easier, alt-click the dial name and it will zero itself. mac

Any good tutorial sites? Well, there's a link at the top of every Renderosity page that says "Tutorials". There is a list of the top 15 WebRing sites to the right (most have tutorials). There is a link for the next 15 as well. So there are 30 sites for you. Or, you could use the "search" button and look at past threads (in this forum) where there are entire message threads of people posting links to their own tutorial sites.
