Hi all, I have developed a program that converts textures between Victoria 1/2 format, and Victoria 3 format (and back again). The full software will be in my store here on Fri 31 Jan, but I have a limited demo version available now on my site. Check out the product page on the above link. The included picture is a conversion of the V3 hi-res maps from Daz to Victoria 1/2. Arizona (V1/2) is wearing these textures (pretty well - I might say). Check out the product page for examples of V2-V3 conversion... Its time to give your Vicky 3 some of your favourite Vicky 2 textures... go on - slip V3 some V2 skin :-) cheers, Steve

Coolness!!! Got the demo, gonna' try it out. This is fabulous!!

Crescent ( ) posted Tue, 28 January 2003 at 10:14 PM

This looks great! It also opens up more possibilities for male variation, too - you can use a V2 texture without make-up for the V3 male morphs. (Well, you can use a V2 texture with make-up for V3 Male, but it's going to look a bit ... odd.) ;-)

pokeydots ( ) posted Tue, 28 January 2003 at 10:16 PM

Can I ask the price :) Just want to be sure I'll have money in the bank to buy it :) any chance in the future you will be able to make Mike textures convert to V3?

This is exactly what I've been praying for......but I have an awful feeling it's gonna be just for Windoze.....please, please tell me I'm wrong :( :)

Sorry Patricia - WIndoze only I'm afraid... What platform are you on?

kayjay97 ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 12:22 AM

Steve!! Thank you so very very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Question, says you can take Mill girls texs and change to V3. Can you do vice versa? V3 tex to Mill girls?

Fashionably_Late ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 12:42 AM

Darn... I'm a Mac user (I'm guessing Patricia is as well, or could be Linux) who would love to be able to use that utility. I haven't been able to get the remap from DAZ to work on V3, and it would be terribly handy to have a program capable of doing that. Well I suppose its time for me to either find a magical PC to Mac program converter or make friends with a PC user who can convert textures for me. ;) Molly

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 1:30 AM

kayjay97 - because the Millenium Girls are based on V1/2 OBJ file, conversion of Mill Girls->V3 and V3->Mill Girls is possible with this program... cheers, Steve

noggin ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 4:12 AM

Wow Steve, I can hardly believe this_ the mind boggles about the clever stuff that must be going on under the bonnet of this thing to make it work without texture smearing and distortion. I presume it works purely on the textures and isn't using the DAZ V3 to V2 version of V3??I'm at work at present but when I'm back home I think you've got another customer!

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 4:19 AM

noggin - as you presumed, it converts the textures, and does not use the Daz conversion in any way. There is no way that you can use the Daz conversion of V3 to put V3 textures on V2. With this little app, it is but a few clicks away :-) cheers, Steve

Wow D_W, this is awesome! I got the demo, and it works fantastically! I'm really looking forward to this! I guess you working on Poser stuff full-time is paying off for us! LOL!

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 8:36 AM

Sharen - it will be available in my Marketplace here...

noggin ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 8:37 AM

It goes both ways_ cool! So all those future textures for V3 that all those wonderful texture artists out there create will be backward compatible with V2!! This effectively doubles the value of all those and past packs for non-artists and is going to make life so much easier for the artist producing the textures. For $30 that's excellent value. This is sure to become a 'must have' utility. Well done Steve! I can't wait.

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 8:40 AM

ElorOnceDark - I'm actually still "in the world" until the end of Feb. But I've got some "splendid" ideas banging around in my head :-) cheer, Steve

What is the difference in the DEMO versus the Full Program? Does not say. This looks to be a wonderful program! TMG

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 10:23 AM

TMGraphics - actually is does say in the readme: SNIP----------------------------------------------- The demo has all the features of the full version except for two things: - Output resolution is set to 1000x1000 and cannot be changed - The generated texture has the word DEMO printed all over it. --------------------------------------------------- cheers, Steve

Steve! How soon before the Mike version is done? Any chance you'll release them together? This is something we've all wanted for a long time. Versions for converting Posette to V2 and vice versa would be interesting too. Good thing I've got a little money extra at the end of the month!

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 10:53 AM

SNIP------------------------------------------------------ How soon before the Mike version is done? Any chance you'll release them together? ---------------------------------------------------------- I am still currently playing with converting between other characters. My initial tests are very encouraging, but nothing is set in stone yet. There is still a ton of development to be done before I can even start on all the other characters. No, there is no chance that I will be releasing them together. cheers, Steve

dragongirl ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 11:21 AM

It would be nice to be able to use Stephanie textures on V2 and V3 and visa versa. :-) Downloading demo now! Thanks! -dg

pdxjims ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 11:41 AM

Steve, I just used the demo on ZetaStudios Breathgen Kid's textures (4000X4000). It worked like a dream. This is one pretty piece of programming. Fairly nice and simple interface, fast, and it maps perfectly. And you did it in VB. Wow! Now, if it only generated the mat file.... (grin - we always want more, don't we?). Congradulations on this, I foresee a lot of profit for you with this. Daz should be letting you get the Mike 3 mesh/maps ASAP. Releaseing the Mike 2 to Mike 3 version would really increase initial sales of Mike 3 when he comes out. If this had been available the first day V3 came out, they'd have sold a lot more of her early.

Eric Walters ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 1:57 PM

Hi Steve Great program! I too am on a Mac- but I have an old version of Windows 98 rev2 running on SoftWindows. Patricia and Molly. I will download the demo and see if it works. I bought Softwindows for exactly these reasons-but I rarely use it being on a Dinosaur computer G3 233 upped to G4 533 Mhz so its fairly slow. Supposedly the more recent emulators are speedier-even on slow computers-"better coding" I hear. I was able to use the converter to use V2 textures on V3. I used UVS decoder 05- and MacConverter from the WONDERFUL MartinC which I can't find now. Do a search on Google. Eric

spudgrl ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 1:58 PM

well it is easy and it works well. I can only use low res textures anyway so The limitaions on size wont effect me really. now I can convert all those lovely extasy textures over. :)

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 2:02 PM

pdxjims: ----------------------------------------------- Now, if it only generated the mat file.... (grin - we always want more, don't we?). -------------------------------------------------------- I actually considered this, but it adds a bit of complication as to where to save the texture, and where to place the icon etc. cheers, Steve

I converted the Odyssey texture and there was no eyes or lips so I used the V3 High Res. eyes and lips and I thought it looked great till I rendered it...I guess I don't understand this but I hope it comes with explanation of how to apply the textures after converting them...

praxis22 ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 2:27 PM

Well it's very cool, especialy watching it work. But does it do the tounge and teeth for V2 to V3? I ask because the maps are on the body on V2 and on the head on V3 and you can only convert one map at a time? Doesn't work on the demo, will the full version do it? later jb

MarianneR ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 3:30 PM

Dizzie: Look at the Materials dialog box in Poser, under Texture Map. Check that the Strength is at 100% for all parts of the eyes. I've had this problem with other maps.

Dizzie ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 4:28 PM

file_43447.jpg

Thanks...it's set to 100% by default....but when I check marked the "Texture changes apply to entire figure" box and then unchecked it to add the body textures, it worked....the one on the right is with the V3 High Res eyeball Map applied...

Doesn't work on the demo, will the full version do it? ----------------------------------------------------------- As I explain in the readme file, the inner mouth, tongue and teeth are mapped very differently between V1/2 and V3. While playing with the convertor, I found I couldn't use these maps to generate a decent non stretched version for V3. I am busy developing an upgrade for this version already (will be free for buyers of this version), and will re-investigate my options with these material parts. cheers, Steve BTW Dizzie - I love the DEMO tattoos ;-)

I'm on a Mac, too and I'd love to use this wonderful proggie. Is there a chance to get a mac version done? Since I don't even have Virtual PC I won't be able to use it on my Mac. Please, please, tell me there will be a version for Macintosh, too. Phil

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 8:52 AM

Phil - I don't even know where to start with programming on a Mac. My wife (yep - she's also a programmer!) was investigating converting it to Java (using the Java Runtime Environment), but she still hasn't got a conclusive answer. If we get anywhere on that idea, I'll let you know. cheers, Steve

TheWingedOne ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 9:45 AM

Thanks Steve, glad you heard my outcry. ;) There are some Mac users around 'Rosity, so I'm quite shure there'll be a customer base for a Mac version. Have a nice day, Phil
