in a magazine article on Electric Image's Universe 5. It says they're based on ACIS technology where an ACIS face is a filled area bordered by loops. Does anyone knows anything about this kind of modelling? if so could you explain it?

Apparently this is not the conventional modelling method used by Electric Image's Universe 5. It's actually used in movies like Star Wars Ep2 and by the looks of it, not many people knows much about it.

I work in the CAD industry and am aspiring to get into 3d art work as a hobby/proffesion. I work primarily with the auto industry and use all of the three main cad packages used in said industry (Catia, SDRC-Ideas, and Unigraphics.) ACIS is a solid modeling kernel employed by Dassault Systems, in their CATIA product line. Other kernels are used by different CAD packages such as UGS, which is employed by Unigraphics / Solid Edge.
