I work in the CAD industry and am aspiring to get into 3d art work as a hobby/proffesion. I work primarily with the auto industry and use all of the three main cad packages used in said industry (Catia, SDRC-Ideas, and Unigraphics.) ACIS is a solid modeling kernel employed by Dassault Systems, in their CATIA product line. Other kernels are used by different CAD packages such as UGS, which is employed by Unigraphics / Solid Edge. The following link will supply a more detailed explanation of modeling kernels used in the CAD industry. Hope you all find this helpful, and look forward to being a part of this community.
