Gee I wish I could help you.....I do know that lenses can be repaired. Alpha was able to save an extremely expensive Nikkor lens that had gotten broken on him with minimal cost. One thing I do know is that I would not start fiddling with it myself....if there is any warrenty still left on the lens that would kill it. And I'm such a clutz I would end up doing more damage. Take it to a camera place or call Nikon and they should be able to direct you....good luck.
I am, therefore I create.......

Don't know if this will help or not, but I have a Nikkor 70-210 and a nikkor 300 that have been doing the same thing for years now. It's really bad when you manually focus either of them fast, from one extreme to the other. Other than the noise (which has actually helped out on a few occasions - deer tend to look up to see what's making the noise, but it's not so loud as to scare them away), both lenses work fine, having suffered no difference in speed or optical quality - so I've been living with it. On my lenses, it sounds almost like the AF coupling on the lens is resonating (sp?) within it's hole. I am sure of one thing though - DO NOT try to oil it, unless you want yuck and gunk inside your lens.
Unless you know what you are doing, I'd advise against doing anything "logical" to fix it. Oiling your lens is the last thing you want to do; can you imagine a nice drop or two getting into your internal optics and coating your lens? Take it to a repair shop. Most reputable ones will give you an estimate for free and fixing a lens is not as expensive as you might think (especially if you don't have to buy optics). -=>Donald

I am praying that someone here can help me. I have the N6006 with both a NIKKOR AF 35-70mm and a AF 70-210MM lenses. During a shoot Saturday I had to switch out lenses to the 35. When i put the 70-210 back on I am getting noise when focusing. It is like it needs oil or something. it is only in the focusing when I get the noise, Manual or AF. The noise is coming from the spot where the body connects to that little screw type gear for focusing. I have cleaned it with a Q-tip and it is better but still makes noise. I stored the lens for less that 10 hours in my camera bag with a cap on both sides. It still works but it is noisy. I am afraid to do anything to it because being unemployed I can't afford to get a new lens. ANY suggestions would be helpful and greatly appriciated. Magick Michael
