Ok have just read the "bear answer" but this isn't working for me I'm using Poser 4 I imported obj file in to the setup room then a "walter" figure bone structure. Resized the bones to fit figure and then auto attached. the result is as follows some of the jionts work after a fasion others just break up like in the graphic... any good tuts on boneing from scratch out there? Where am I going wrong? The manule is worse than usless, it just confuses me. Prehaps It's all to much for my brain.

It may be because you did not weld the vertices. There is an option in the grouping tool window. I'd need to see the actual model to be more accurate. If you feel that would be helpful then by all means send it to me and we can work through it.

If you are at the stage I think you are you may find the tutorial on my site of interest. It certainly contains all the information you are looking for with several worked examples. Please note however that there are loads of other tutorials available besides my one. Most are free. Best judge of how good they are is to see the work the writer is accomplishing.

P.S.

If your model already contained groups prior to going into the set up room its possible that you have the collar touching the chest AND the abdomen. This is a no-no. Again ... very happy to look over the files you have and lead you through it.
