Now, in the case you want the moon to show in the sky and if you want not only silhouetes, add another, blueish or grey directional light from the opposite direction to give some relief to the mountains and vegetations.
Hope this helps.

You should ask yourself who will see your future pictures : - mostly PC users with a monitor gamma setting of 2.2 - mostly Mac users with a monitor gamma setting of 1.8 For instance, I'm at work with gamma setting of 2-2.2, your photos above are rather dark. But at home I have now a gamma of 1.8, your photos will appear not so dark to me. The best is to adjust your monitor setting to the setting of most of the future viewers, before the beginning of your work. That just my 2 cent opinion :3 monthes ago I experienced a problem seeing nothing inside a dark picture, it was due to my default monitor setting of 2.2 ;=) Yves
Gebe I understand that these scenes are not at night time. I am just wanting recreate a similar terrain and use it in a night time setting. I apologize for the lack of information on my part. I do have the visions of the scenes that I want stuck in my head. The biggest thing I want to recreate is the pics #1, 2. The road and the surrounding banks are what is crucial to me. YL I knew the images would be dark and rather grainy. These are scenes from a DVD that I ripped for examples to try to explain what I am attempting to do. I will attempt to play with the settings a bit and try to get brighter pics next time.
