If your machine has a serial port (or a Mac ADB port), a low-cost alternative is one of the older ArtZII tablets. I got an 6 x 8 tablet, still in the sealed box, from EBay for about $75 US. Look around for bargains. As people switch to the USB versions, some are selling cheap. I wouldn't want to work on anything smaller than my 6x8. Bigger in this case is significantly better.

I was thinking of purchasing a Wacom Intuos tablet and was wondering if it would be worth my time to buy a 4x5 tablet. Does anyone have this size and is it a pain-in-the-arse to work in a space that small? The other tablets are presently out of my spending range. I have spent alot of money as it is.
