Subject: What Does Your Username Mean?

ocddoug ( ) posted Sun, 09 March 2003 at 6:23 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 5:10 AM

I'm always curious about these things. The "ocd" in my name means Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (yes, I have it), the "doug" is of course my name.

Anyone?

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 09 March 2003 at 6:36 PM

I use Catlin because that's what my mother calls me. I thinks she's still undecided about what my given name should be. :) Cat She still treats me like a 2 year old too.

Z_Shadow ( ) posted Sun, 09 March 2003 at 7:02 PM

Z_Shadow is a funny way of trying to say The Shadow with a french accent. I had the nickname of Shadow since highschool and continued using it as a pen name on any artwork I did. I normally sign airbrush work "Shadow DiD It". My best friend added the Z to it when we worked together at a race car garage and everyone else there refered to me as the custom painter. Sorry for the babbling, but you asked for it.:)

When I got my first internet connection in San Diego with AOhelL back in 93 that was the name they assigned. All the stupid ones I wanted were taken. Now that I live in Arizona I was trying to change to EricofAZ but after 10 years do you now how tough that is? New accounts, different galleries, yada yada.

Claymor ( ) posted Sun, 09 March 2003 at 8:06 PM

Claymor was a role playing character I created on Prodigy years ago, then it was the name of a web design company I started. I suppose Claymor has become my alter ego. It all stems from the word claymore which is a scottish sword.

Well, after seeing some of my early work my youngest son called me 'The Bryce-Master' 'cos he was really impressed. I thought that was bit long so we tried 'Brycster' but that was confusing to the eye. So after a bit of thought we ended up with......... ...The Bryster!

My username stems from the fairly common practice of combining name(s) initial(s) and the last two digits of one's birth year. Nothing exciting there. ;) Just wondering tho, isn't claymor also a type of land mine?

Wow and I only used my name. Not much thought into that one. I may have to change it just to keep up with the Joneses.

boblaprime ( ) posted Sun, 09 March 2003 at 9:40 PM

Or... bobla from the latin bobla meaning to bob up and down while singing. la la la and prime as in a great steak. I guess I could be the reincarnation of the long sought after bobbing, singing steak. ok... maybe not.

Tjohn is a nickname. The T is short for something I'm not going to share :^) and John is my name.

GROINGRINDER ( ) posted Sun, 09 March 2003 at 11:21 PM

Let's see where do I start. Hmmmm......................Ok I had this friend in High School who used to use a phony german accent and introduce himself to girls as Baron Von Groingrinder. He would pretend not to know where he was and try to con them into giving him a ride somewhere so he could ride with them and have more time to con their phone numbers. It was hilarious to everyone who knew him because of how phony it looked and sounded, but it worked amazingly well. We could never understand it. I suppose karma rewarded him for being so willing to make a total ass of himself. Now I use the name hoping people will think it is as funny as I do.

FWTempest ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 12:16 AM

I used to sing with a local band (a couple, actually, but I'm referring to my latest). We were sitting around B.S.ing one night, trying to come up with a name, and I started throwing out these oxymoronic 70's sounding name... Fair Weather Tempest was the one that stuck. This was also about the time that I received Bryce, Poser, Carrara and Painter as a gift from my brother who worked for Metacreations during the Great Collapsing Metacreational Frungdung. So I learned to use the programs making band posters. Since then, the band has split, but since I came up with the name, and I think it's not too bad as name's go, and I'm not doing anything musically oriented with it, I've adopted it for my artistic ventures. Shortened it a bit for Renderosity use.

Elsina ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 12:23 AM

I started my gallery with two other people after we build a website together, and could not come up with a name for it, so we called it temporarily "creations". I also have an account on my own name Elsina (also that gallery I did with someone else for one specific website). In the end, images we do together (one modelling, one texturing and /or rendering) usually go there and Creations became my own more or less. And yes, too late to change it now... Elsina :-))

chohole ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 1:54 AM

Mine too is one of the boring ones, its the name of our house. Chohole gate lodge in full. We have never known for certain where the chohole came from, but think it is a corruption of charcoal, and the gate was the one the charcoal burners used to access common land when the park was first enclosed.

Damn I never knew houses could have names. Now I gotta think up a name for mine. Maybe "House of the Rising Sun".

Erlik ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 2:22 AM

Oh, ask around Britain and you'll see whether houses can have names. :-) Mine ... well, I was loking for a user name for a free mail service before I joined up here. And remembered Erlik, from Conan comics (haven't seen it in the books). It's an extremely nasty and ugly god. And I liked the sound of the name. Now I'm using it on every forum I joined since. Not that I'm either extremely nasty, or, I hope, ugly. :-)

Self-explainatory. Plus, at the time I knew his character would make it to the sequels, so that was cool. The Matrix is today what Star Wars was to the 70's/80's, IMO.

Oh, long story! I created a character for a comic/ rpg in which an ordinary girl is given this mission in her dreams by greater powers. She had to enter other people's dreams to solve their problems. More like psychological problems. She had to enter their dreams and live them, and understand them to search for this person problem, and then change them to make them enlight this person. I could explain it better, but it would take forever! Anyway, my own dream of saving the world kinda thing (something usual for an aquarian). Excuse my English!

B stands for Brian. Hubenig is my last name. My last name, according to one sirname dictionary, means: Tall thin man, possibly used sarcastically. Ironic that my great great grandfather stood 5'3" and weighed about 300 pounds!

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 3:43 AM

Rayraz comes from raytraz. I once got my first e-mail adress and I wanted to call it raytraz. Raytraz came from raytrace, because I already was a bryce-addict back then. However I was a new-bee at anything internet besides hotbot (searchengine wich I used before google came around) and a few basic sites, so I asked my father to make my e-mail adress. I wrote the name down, but forgot the 't' from traz and so it became rayraz. I thought it sounded rather cool and decided to leave it that way. My house doen't have a name. But my computers do: My first computer (386) was called DAVE after my favourite dos-game. My second one (300MHz AMD K6II) was called reboot because it crashed way more often than my old 386. It was only later that I noticed that was because I started using windows back then. My current commputer (AMD 1800+) is called Phtalo because it sounds cool.

It means "new found land" and is the name of our gallery with stone sculptures in The Netherlands. We try to make Hyperborea as real as possible by creating it in different art disciplines. It even has its own language and the signature in our work is the letter H. Willem and Madeleine

RobertJ ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 5:30 AM

Well RobertJ when pronouced in Dutch means so much like little Robert, wich is exactly the opposite of what i am, rather tall guy weighing about 105 kg. And the J also stands for my seccond wich is Jan, Robert Jan, just because there where already so much people in the family called Jan. And as last, i the past when choosing a screenname in a Forum (or such things), Robert was usually taken, so RobertJ was the seccond choice :)

Well, I am the third Aquarian here. :-) But, let's stick to the names so not to turn this into a horoscope list. My username is my first name and since where I live this name is usually shortened to Tanja, I have never felt the need for a third name or a pseudonym. It comes from Latin, via Russian, originally meaning "the one who names". This is fun, actually, since I have wondered about some of the usernames before. Thanks ocddoug for initiating this.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Mon, 10 March 2003 at 8:26 AM

Main Entry: 1incarnadine Pronunciation: in-'k-n&-"dIn Etymology: Middle French incarnadin, from Old Italian incarnadino, from incarnato flesh-colored, from Late Latin incarnatus Date: 1591 1 : having the pinkish color of flesh 2 : RED; especially : BLOODRED It was a bit of an inside joke based on the above definitions. I picked the name up as a pseudonym for my pen and ink/photographic erotic works (fine art nudes to BDSM/fetish images) and just kinda liked the sound of it. Castle Perilous came to my attention later, and I liked the character of Lord Incarnadine so I keep with my nick. My computers are Bambleweeney Maxxx and Bambleweeney Portable.
