Subject: do we really need confirmation that people have received an IM message??

SeanE ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2003 at 2:02 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 4:44 PM

I for one find it very annoying to see that I have 1 message only to find that it's merely a confirmation that someone has finally logged in and seen a message that I may have sent weeks ago and since forgotten all about... I'd rather just see their replies if any...if they don't reply then it probably wasn't important anyway and if I really need a reply then I can IM them again and give them a 'hurry up' if need be. my 2 cents.... i hve to agree with that as i get ALOT of ims -it would be nice if that was removed but i am thankful for the im feature :)

Well, maybe it could be another opt out feature because some of us do use it. Sometimes I need to know if the person has received the message or not (not all messages require responses but still need acknowledgment). Some messages I've sent have taken several days for the other person to get around reading. I would have wondered about the silences had I not known that they had not yet read the message. If too much time goes by, then I know that I should try to rach them in another way. Maybe because I don't read or send many IM messages, I still find it a convenience to have that notification.

"Well, maybe it could be another opt out feature because some of us do use it. " yeah i have to agree with that i was crabby and not thinking of other people at that moment and time lol

Sometimes it can be a little annoying to receive these confirmations, but I agree with dialyn that it can be very useful so I wouldn't do away with them. The opt-out feature is a great idea.

what about making it a separate little popup window like the one when you vote, of course you would make it an option in your profile whether you would want that or not but I think it would be less distracting and annoying that way.

I like the confirmation, but can we get an option that Deletes All Receieved Message Messages that is separate from the Delete All Messages? That would probably solve both complaints... Just a thought... ShadowWind

This confirmation is vital to me. I sell product here and if people have problems with those products they private message me usually and I send them back a reply. It vital to me that I know they got the message. But having it so people that don't need it can turn it off is fine also but don't goof up what works for me by doing a change. Like I cannot turn off the default e-mail me a message on reply. It does not stick I always have to uncheck that box everytime I post. Email me when sombody replys. It broken here. Your suppose to be able to turn the check mark off and have to click it to get mail. That does not work for me. The check mark is always there. So don't break the messges the same way adding this feature to turn it off for some people. I need these messages.
