Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 6:52 am)
Windows 2000 on an AMD-System 1700 system with 1 Gig of Ram and an Elsa Gladiac 511 Graphics-Card. Oh, and I have to step back on Point 4) The volumetrics do show - but since I am always working with very large scaled landscapes, it doesn't really show. Still, I do get mightily strange results in some pictures and a bright rainbow-effect when I view the horizon through such a volumetric... Strange indeed.
"2) Ever tried creating a mixed material with one material having a glow? I did. It ended up crashing the programm a few seconds after being assembled in the material editor..." I can vouch for that one. And if you're lucky enough to pull off a mixed material with one having glow, you don't even want to know what happens when you try to animate it...talk about crash city... Windows ME, 800MHZ, 512MB of Ram...

There are so many wishlists for new features for Vue on the net, that I can't even start to count the ideas for new features. However, since I play a lot with more extreme materials and lightning-conditions in Vue, I do experience a lot of bugs every day, going from annoying to bugs that crash the programm. I would like to start something different: A bug-list that lists all reproducably bugs of Vue d'Esprit 4.12. Why would I want such a list? Well, there are always those, who will tell you that Vue is great and that you won't find any annoying bugs or problems in Vue. Well, for me it is a fact that Vue is practically riddled with bugs. And maybe, just maybe we can get a few bugs removed by listing them including the way they may be reproduced. So, I will start with the most annoying bugs I have discovered: 1) Try to shear a terrain for any axis expect X to Y and you will get most interesting results. If you are wondering why the terrain behaves so erratically, take a look at the rotation-parameters. But don't get the stupid idea of resetting the rotation-parameters: This will reset the shear-parameter too. A great bug when you want to get those nice scifi-rocks... I tried several times and got a psychosis to go along with the picture. 2) Ever tried creating a mixed material with one material having a glow? I did. It ended up crashing the programm a few seconds after being assembled in the material editor. At first I had no idea why this happened, but then I noticed, that deactivating the scene-preview would stop those crashes - until I tried rendering the scene. 3) Did you ever try to make a complex mixed material more than 3 branches deep? I did. It is funny: You can try and try and try to change the materials from the third branch downward, but the programm won't react to those changes. Sometimes this starts to happen in the second branch. Oh, you will see the change in the material, but the preview of the material won't change and the material itself won't change in the combined material. It takes a lot of tricks with changing and resetting materials to get this problem solved. 4) The volumetrics are a fake. They only work if viewed from the outside, but placing a camera inside a volumetric material will get you no noticable result. 5) Do you want to have some fun? Use my lightdome, replicate and rotate it to get a more complete lightning set. You will have some fun. My Vue crashed every 10 seconds or so while trying this. Joerg
