Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 16 10:02 pm)
Everything from P4 and Pro Pack should work in P5, although some of the materials might need a little tweaking. The smooth-polygons render option can occasionally cause problems, but that feature can be selectively disabled.
The only compatibility issue to keep in mind is that Poser 5 eliminates crosstalk, so any items that take advantage of that bug (nerd's superconforming clothing, the Victoria 3 bikini, etc.) won't work as intended. You'll have to set the morphs manually.
Having just gotten P5, well after all the fiascos, I would recommend it. It does NOT come fully patched as the manual suggests on PG 21, and I reported erroneously. But, IMHO P5 rocks... rendering is a joy (most of the time), materials and the face room are fun and intriguing and I haven't even started with the cloth room yet. The only thing I have had a problem with in P5 is H-Mans' 3dWorlds kit... and that is probably just because I haven't learned to use that yet. e.d.
Don't beleive all that negative stuff people say about P5. I am addicted to it! After installing the Service release and upgrading from Win 98 to XP I have had very little problems. An ocassional freeze usually fully recovers with crl-alt-del then hit cancel and every thing comes back. The photo realistice Firefly renders make the P4 stuff look like cartoons. The money I spent for the upgrade is worth every penny. It also helps to have a fast machine with lost of ram! GTRDON
Currently, the only advantage that P4 has over P5 is the exporters that P4PP has, and the fact that Vue D'esprit doesn't recognize the P5 executable. That said, if you have the platter space, get P5 and install it in a seperate folder. That way you have the best of both worlds, and if something isn't working in P5, you can shift to P4 and see if that helps. CL is working on and SR3, as well as a PP for P5, but there is no idea as to when either will be ready. E-on has announced that they are working with CL to get P5 useable with Vue, but again, no idea of time required...
