Here is my first attempt at painting on clothing in photoshop...can i get opinions?

I also painted hair while I was at it :-)
I'm not thrilled with the shadowing, and the hair didnt come out so well.

Anyhow, let me know what i can do to improve, not too harsh please!

Actually, the hair's not too bad, I thought it was photo hair that you pasted on! The jeans look good at the waistband and zipper. The crotch/leg transition part is a little vague, but all in all, nice job!

that's what i mean though - his hair looks pasted on -maybe some more detail at the hairline will do it. his jeans still look 2d, i have to work on that a little more. thanks! Brooke

Well, I certainly am in no position to give advises on painting (as I'm pretty new and not that great at it myself), but here's something I found out - if you add some shadowing from the hair on his face and from the jeans on his body, it'll look much better and will "put it in the scene with him", so to speak. Also I noticed that the jeans' texture looks really good, but there are a few spots where it looks "smudged" and pixelated. Maybe you can fix this. Oh, and one last thing I just noticed - his right arm is supposed to drop a shadow - it does on his body, but the shadow is cut where the jeans starts. You could lower the opacity of the layer in which you painted the jeans, and then take a brush and paint on the jeans the shadows like they were rendered on the body. I really like his face, by the way! Is it V3 or Mike? He looks great, either way! :)

i took the texture for the jeans from a photo, so there were some areas that didn't mesh well, still needs some work there. some more shadowing work is definately needed -i just got tired of looking at it. sometimes another pair of eyes can point out what you're seeing, but not processing. especially after staring for hours! the model is v3 with the david face pose - i adjusted the nose and mouth, little bit of tweaking on the chin. it's so nice to be able to work with a "prettier" male model - i can't wait for Mike 3, if the improvement from m2-->m3 is anything like v2-->v3, he is going to be incredible. (maybe he'll even be anatomically correct?)

I like the hair the best, although it doesn't look quite right to be but I don't know why exactly. The pants look good, but they appear to be standing up in front of him instead of wrapped around him. You need to paint something that indicates they go behind him at the waist band. I also think the crotch is off center a little and that the one leg look bigger than the other. You can help this a little by painting some wrinkles in. Clothes always have wrinkles. These are just my thoughts and in no way a criticism. Just things that I think might help. Kevin
