Apple has opened up the Apple Design Awards to include Quicktime content. Since Vue 4 (and even better, Vue 4+Mover 4) can export MOV files (and panos!), if you have created some interesting Vue movies you should consider entering the Apple Design Awards. There are categories for individuals AND Students. I believe prize winners get a 17" G4 Powerbook and Cinema Display, in addition to wet and slobbery kisses from Steve Jobs and Al Gore on stage (heh-heh, sorry, April Fool's on that part!). There is a limited amount of time left to enter this, so dont delay. Just an FYI :-) Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software

I have the (recent) purchased version of QT and NEVER could create a .mov animation. I always get the above message. My version is the latest one and I have re-installed without success. A question for MightyPete maybe, our computer specialist? Guitta

Hi Guitta, Make sure you sent a report in as well. Do you mean Quicktime 6 (or the incremental upgrade to Quicktime 6)? I havent tried QT 6 yet (still have QT 5). Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software

QT 6 Lynn:-) I just need a little time to see how I can behave (report etc.). Thanks, Best Regards, Guitta

I have hade the same problem as Guitta in that I am unable to export a Quicktime animation from VUE. I get the same message. However, I've no problem exporting QT animations from Carrara Studio. Anyone else have this problem? --Dennis

Well tell you the truth I can't say I've ever made one of those that way. Off hand I'd say it's FOV, Nope it's based on 24 Oh forget that that up wrong. I just made one. The width you render has to be a multible of 24. Keep that in mind. If you can divide the width evenly by 24 then that width will do. Ok pick some width say 1024 Lets check 1024 / 24 = 42.6 Nope that will not work. nope ok do it this way 24 X 42 =1008 Ok so that will be our width for this example. Select render to screen Select panorama Render to SCREEN Save as QTVR in the same drop down spot where you would normally pick bmp or tga on the save, yes that spot. Double click on the file.. Owwwwwwww Ahhhhhhhhh Panorama... Better than Liver........... Got stuck lost? See page 107 of the book. I just made one no problem and it worked no problem. Normally I make cubic QTVR's so you can look up and down to. that's made with 6 images 90 FOV with the 18mm lens.

Keep this in mind too panoramas are 360 degrees. So make sure it's set to that.

gebe ( ) posted Fri, 04 April 2003 at 3:17 AM

No, no MightyPete, I don't want to render an image in QTVR. I know to do that and it works without problem. The problem is to save an animation in MOV format. Ther I get the error message:-( Guitta

Well then you got me because I don't make animations. I have enough problems just rendering still life. My personal opinion is that unless you have a render farm or a network handy animations are sort of a waste with present day computers. I don't really make animations. My point, yup you make the perfect animation. What are you going to do with it now? The files are huge. Win this contest for sure but they have limited use for me. But some are cool like the one that came with Lighwave, Well actually come to think of it I've seen some pretty funny ones too. I just don't make them myself personally. There is a few people here that do animations maybe one of those guys will see this post and help with this delemma.

Thanks anyhow MightyPete. I don't want to participate to the contest, I just want to know why I (and others too it seems) get this error message. I render my anims in DivX format, as I cannot do it in QT MOV. I purchased QT especially for anims in Vue+Mover, for nothing else:-( :-)Guitta

Guitta; As far as QT 6 goes, if you can see a preview of the animation when you select the file, then QT can export it to .mov Try this workaround. Make some extra space, and re-render in one of the other .avi formats; QT wants some file that doesn't exist on the Apple server. My guess is it needs a specific DivX decoder version. If the file plays, then just go to filesexport and it should convert fine, artifacts and all.... :P Most of the people who do .mov's that I've run into usually save an animation as seperate frame images, then assemble them in QT. Haven't tried that one yet, so I don't know how it works. #1,397,998 on the list of things to learn...

Thanks Dale, what you explain I know to do without problem. But sometimes I want to save short animations directly in MOV format. And this doesn't work:-(
