For immediate release: Cupertino, CA, April 1, 2003, 11:00am Curious Labs (CLS) announced today that the latest version of their flagship product, Poser 6, will be released exclusively for the Macintosh OS-X, starting on April 15, 2003. When asked about this development, a senior official said, "When we released Poser 5 for Windows, we received a lot of negative feedback. So, we decided to say, f--- the Windows users. We're tired of their whining. Everyone knows Mac people are better. Hey, you're not recording this, are you?" Poser 6 will include all new features including:

  • Body Room: scan in a picture of your body and morph it using "virtual clay". Give yourself a better physique or a bigger chest.
  • Dynamic Body Hair: not content with growing hair on the head, Poser 6 will allow users to grow hair on all parts of the model. Originally designed for use with the cat and dog figures, this feature creates beautiful armpit air and the "European" unshaved-legs look. Be sure to read the tutorial on "Creating the Bearded Lady".
  • Material Shader2: an updgraded version of the Poser 5 "shader node" system- this feature allows the user to connect nodes to nodes to get the perfect surface. Applying a texture to a model is as simple as connecting the image node to the diffuse color node to the texture node to the UV map node to the body node to the base node.
  • Lightning Bug Render Engine: an upgraded version of the much talked-about "FireFly" render engine, originally developed for Poser 5. Its smoothing feature turns even boxes into spheres! Disclaimer: the smoothing features of this render engine may cancel the effects of the "stubble" setting in the "Dynamic Body Hair".
  • Setup Room: Incorporates a full-featured modelling program purchased from a small company called Newtek.
  • Mutiple Viewports: have up to 8 views in your document window at one time!
  • Content Paradise2: "Back to Heaven": Not content with just selling Poser products, the all-new version of Content Paradise will scour the web for any product that fits your description. Need a desk for your next render? Content Paradise will put you in touch with featured partners like Office Depot and Office Max. Please note the the system requirements will be higher in this version. Poser 6 requires at least 3G of RAM, running on a 3Ghz G7 processor, and at a screen resolution of at least 2560x1028. The official went on to say, "Poser 6 will no longer support import and export plug-ins with programs like [Newtek's] Lightwave and [eon-software's] Vue [d'Espirit]. We feel that our new Setup Room and rendering engine is all the user will ever need. If you can't do it in Poser, you shouldn't do it at all. Ah, you didn't record that, either, did you?" The pre-release price will be comparable to Poser 5, with a street price of $329.00. Curious Labs said they will also be taking post-release orders at the street price of $299.00. Amazon.com has announced that they will be taking reservations for their July 1 sale of Poser 6 for only $199.00. Poser 4 users can upgrade to Poser 6 for only $350.00 and Poser 5 users can upgrade to Poser 6 for only $335.00. With the release of Poser 6, Poser 5 will be put on sale for $315.00 and Poser 4 (with Pro Pack) will be reduced to $300.00.

Wow! Where can I send my money? I'm going out to buy a mac right now. (I'm sure they fixed those library labels by NOW.)

Through my Pacfic tuna friends I found that the Mutiple Viewports feature defaults to 4 max if you don't have a minimum 21 inch monitor even at max res.

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.
