Subject: Carrara+Poser? Amapi+Poser?

PEACE! I am generally a 'Poser-only' user but I feel I need to use a modeling s/w as a prop creator. Infos about Carrara and Amapi look all good but I am not sure the (dis/)advantages of Carrara and Amapi. The most important feature is a compatibility with poser files (eg. obj file transfer w/o any breakage). And .... should be easy to handle with low system resources. I posted this at Poser forum because I must choose one as a Poser-assistant-s/w. Please tell me if you have any idea or suggestion. Thanks.

Hi, we are using RDS5.02/Carrara + Poser 5 + Bryce 5. We started early in creating objects in RDS 5.02. Think it's adequate for such (little advanced)devoloper like us. All our subjects in the marketplace are created with this software. The only way to import the mesh is going the way by *.obj. Perhaps we are going to buy the RDS upgrade Carrara. We tested this software a little bit, but didn't found new good stuff, which is worth enough to buy it. Unbeatable is 3DMax (we can use version 5). But this software is too expensive for us private-developer. So we are glad to use this software from time to time at our company. Regards Daniel + Matthias Kruse

Got carrera and amapi but use Carrera for props and when dealing with Character/Conforming/Morphing fall back on RDS as have a method to my madness that hasnt quite worked in Carrera... If you can go ebay or somewhere on the cheap - Raydream really is very advanced, good and works with the obj into PPP and P5 just fine. Otherwise, would catch carrera as not as difficult a learning curve as amapi (least for me).

I have Carrara 1.2, but haven't used it much yet. When I bought it it came with an older version of Amapi (5.2) I think, free. There are a lot of tutorials about using Amapi to make poser clothes. I think Amapi has a much steeper learning curve. You might try the demos. The new Carrara has even more modeling options than the premeir version. The last version of Raydream had a poser import filter I believe, but it had a slower render engine.

I use amapi for creating modells.it works very good and i you can get amapi 6 you can use wavefront obj to import and export from poser to amapi and vice versa. Eovia released amapi 7 so i think you can get amapi6 for a very good price.

Amapi is hard to learn (I lost a lot of brain cells in the process of adapting to it!) but it's unbeatable for making complicated and precise objects speedily. Poser "likes" the OBJ files produced by Amapi, which isn't true of some other modelers.
