Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 02 5:01 am)
This message appears when the file is created in one version of Poser and then opened in another (lower) version. Like opening a file created in ProPack in P4, or opening a P5 file in P4. Usually, this is no problem at all. You can get rid of the message by editing the file in question in a text editor. Near the top of the text, you will find the information which Poser version it was created in. Change it to your current version and re-save the file.
What version of Poser do you have? You should have at least Poser 4.03. It's likely that whoever's MAT file you're using has a later version than the software you have. If you have the patched P4, then you have version 4.03. If you have PPP, it's something like 4.2.01. (I forget the exact number.) P5 is 5.02 something. If I make a MAT file in P5, it will also have that 5.02 yadda number, and if you open it in P4, P4 will go, "Hey, I'm only v 4.03. Whaddya mean there's something newer?" 99 times out of 100, it will still work just fine. If it annoys you, just open up the MAT file (.cr2, whatever) in a text editing program and change the version number to read 4.03. It's up at the top, so it's easy to find. It's highly suggested to merchants that they make sure the version number in their files say 4.03 no matter what version of Poser they create their files in. Cheers!
It has to do with the version number in the mat file, irritating as hell and really shouldn't be there in any mat file that is in the marketplace, totally unprofessional in my opinion and we shouldn't have to fix it. If the beta testing is done correctly (tested in not just PP but also P4) then the testers should be catching it. Yes, it's a HUGE, HUGE pet peeve of mine, especially since it's so darn easy to catch and fix. As has already been stated, open up the mat file and change the version, you will be rid of that accursed message, then I would suggest sending an IM to the merchant (if the file in question is purchased) and let them know that they need to pay a bit more attention to the version number for their customers. Yes, I realize that some can slip by, BUT it's such a small and simple thing to fix and it creates all kinds of aggravation and concern on the end user that isn't necessary. Sorry for the rant LOL!! You just happened to pick a real pet peeve of mine. :) Didn't mean to carry on so :) Pendy
Pendy, I agree. My older files haven't been altered, but ever since I was made aware of it, I TRY to remember to fix them :o) I was told that altering it to Version 4.01 solves ANY problems (except those on P3 of course) Actually I don't know if it would cause problems to alter it to Version 3? There are certain things that doesn't work iin Poser 3, such as transparencies.. But would it affect a file that actually was opened in P4 or above?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
