Subject: Moving Poser 4...the adventure continues

OK so the project for this weekend was moving poser from my main hard drive to a partition on my seconf hard drive. I had the advice from my previous post at hand. I have a pentium 4 with XP on it. I opened my C drive and then opened the partition on my second hard drive and drug the folder over. I made a copy (took 15 minutes). Then I went to the shortcut on my desktop and opened properties and changed the c: to I: so it would point to poser in the I partition. Well......."TILT"! didn't work. Im at work and I don't recall exactly what it said...but it ain't gonna go. So looking back over the posts you guys made....I guess I should have deleted the C: drive shortcut and created a new shortcut from partiton I. Do you think that will work. Other option I am considering is just installing Poser 4 on I: and replacing the runtime folder with my old runtime. Any more advice on this?

here is what I would do.. Install poser to your new partition then just drag the runtime over to it. I have poser installed on a ram disc. I don't use it much but when I need it I pop in the disc. That way I don't have it eating up drive space :)

question is - is the path the same from your link? Like if you use windows explorer - go to I: drive - go to Programs - go to Curious Labs (or metacreations - dependent on installation) then Poser 4 folder; does that address in explorer window match your link address both in target and startin fields? I got tired of going through the above to access my sub-directories so copied mine to I:Poser 4 so that address is in Start in field with quote marks at beginning and end. The Target field says "I:Poser 4Poser.exe". Easiest thing to do is to go to where you put P4 - and click on the poser.exe to see if it starts (just to make sure it is good) then if it does - exit P4 - right click on poser.exe and do send to desktop as shortcut.

yup- I just moved mine too :) I cut the entire folder on C then pasted it to drive F then I went to drive F and double clicked the poser.exe worked fine delete the old short cut create a new short cut works like a champ :) geo

OK...that sounds simple enough...screw trying mess with the old shortcut....just make a new one. I presume you have to delete the old one first. If that works can I just "delete" the original poser folder on C: or do I have to uninstall.I don't want to get into the ol missing dll crap I used to get with win98 all the time.

easiest to remove old one but if one is on desktop - think it makes new one with a (1) or (2) at end. So if you didn't remove the old one first - assume the new one has a number following.
