Subject: Computer Crashes w/ XP Home

Renderholic ( ) posted Sat, 12 April 2003 at 3:05 PM · edited Tue, 21 January 2025 at 7:46 PM

I am using Poser 4 with the latest patch and Windows XP Home. Everything had worked fine (except for a problem with the dials) until my hard drive crashed a few weeks ago. I've got a new HD and have reinstalled everything. Poser works fine, I don't even have the problems with the dials not working anymore. But whenever I close Poser, the computer restarts! This means that I have to go in and delete all the .rsr geometries of any figures that I was using or I get the dreaded "Cannot open obj file" message. I have installed the XP service packs. What is causing computer to crash? I am running AMD Athlon 1.05 ghz with 384 mb RAM with Geforce 2 Video card. Any suggestions?

Hmmm not sure ...i haven't had any crashes(restarts) but i do get lots of "Can not find .obj" and "The file has a newer version number..Poser will try to read it anyway" and i get a "Caught C exception: Exception Access_violation trapped at 1b:4d3031" when i click on Micheal 2's face.

When you get the "Cannot find .obj" message you can fix that by going to Geometries (note the file path given in message) and delete the .rsr file for that object. Do NOT delete the .obj file itself. When you next open that character Poser will regenerate the correct .rsr file. Learned this trick the hard way! BTW, Creative Labs tech support recommends that I disable all startup items before running Poser. My be a conflict with Norton A/V. I'll give that a try and report back.
