Yeah, I'm not kidding! Every few years we hold a Renderosity logo contest. With this new logo, we will be changing the appearance of Renderosity as well - a new look! Come on and enter your work. This is the big one folks, your artwork could be featured on every single page that Renderosity serves up. Imagine the KUDOS! Not to mention the 500 bucks ;) Kevin.

I asked this question over on the Forum News forum, but in case it gets overlooked - I'll ask it again here! The rules state that entries will be anonymous. They also stipulate that the artist's signature should appear on two of the graphics. How will this work? I'm a bit confused by it...

Rules say we must use the Renderosity font, but what font is that? The link takes you to a JPG (IExplorer you can see it, Netscape wants to download it as "artistdownload.ez"). Thanks, Dave

Me again..lol...just been looking a that font, and the 'Y' in the R'osity logo is non-standard - it's been changed from the original version of the font (presumably for reasons of balance)- so even if you purchase it, you won't get an exact match...

I wouldn't think so - the link from the comp. page gives you the word 'Renderosity' in black and white versions of the font. Download the pic, then just cut 'n paste it into whatever you're using (shouldn't be that difficult in PSP or PhotoShop). Not sure what we're supposed to do with 'Marketplace' though...

Therein lies my point. They want "quality" artwork. Cutting and pasting from their JPG they post will take some doing. And it may not look all that great. I work for a company where I have to take the artwork client's give us and fit it to our product for printing. Sometimes the art isnt of good quality and I have to reverse engineer it. Lot of times I have to try and match the font they've used because I can get a decent resolution off of what they sent us. I understand that they want to stick with the same font and all. I just think it's kind of lousy to be expected to go an purchase the font to enter the contest. Maybe the font criteria should be relaxed a little. Dave

Yeah, I often have similar probs in my job (web design), so I know what you mean. Seeing as I seem to making a nest in this thread, I thought I might as well ask for clarification on another point whilst I'm here. When the rules say ONLY the word 'Renderosity' and ONLY the word 'Marketplace' - does that mean that there shouldn't be any additional text, as there is at present - the URL, or 'online graphic artist's community' (or any variation on the above)? I know what the rules SAY, but have some doubt about what they MEAN! Not sure if I'm just easily confused, but I seem to be having pronblems understanding quite a few aspects of this comp - hopefully I'm just putting into words what others would like to ask,too, and not just being denser than the rest...

Darkginger: I think the rules should have been updated now. And the word 'Marketplace' doesn't have to be in any particular font. Your choice. Dave/taerin: You're not expected to buy the font to enter. The image provided has a reasonably hi-res version of the 'Renderosity' name and should resize quite well. Changing the font/relaxing the rules for the word 'Renderosity' isn't an option. Kev.

the way I run my mouth, I'm practically on every page anyway..;) For a moment, I thought there was a $488 prize for a new logo. There are programs out there that can 'match up' near misses, I think I may have one or two (fonts, my previous obsession prior to this place, 2,700 or so..;). After reading the rules, I'm a little confused. No static images or animations..that leaves..different colors? Placement of the text at a different angle, italicized? hmm..used to do stuff like that in Corel Draw. Could you guys give us some examples (for the visually challenged among us..;)?

No static images or animations I believe this would translate into normal speech as 'No pictures that aren't moving, and no pictures that are moving, either.

And this time it would really improve the "professional" image they want to create here if they would get their punctuation correct. It's Artists' (plural possessive) not Artist's (singular possessive). And let's not even get into the difference between the words "then" and "than". I'm not allowed to say whether the Merchants' forum is headlined as 'Welcome to the Merchants - Private Forum' or not because I'm not allowed to repeat anything from there out here, but if it says that (which means 'Welcome the the merchants! The Merchants are a private forum.'), it might be better off saying 'Welcome to the Merchants' Private Forum' Kate: on that note ('Merchants'' and 'Artists''): I've worked for a stripper magazine and we were always wondering if there is a correct way to write the 'Gentleman's' in 'Gentleman's Club' (which most titty bars call themselves). 'Gentlemans'' can't be right, but neither can 'Gentlemen's' because that implies that it belongs to a singular gentlemen, which makes no sense. However, 'Gentlemens'' seems wrong too, and 'Gentlemans'' seems pretty goofy. Never figured that one out.

Oy, the first in the exmaple list was supposed to be 'Gentleman's' -- which seems wrong because it implies that the club belongs to a single gentleman. Which it might, and that gentleman might be a mobster, but he might not, and he could be a big black lady who makes the world's best hamburgers. Depends on the club. Most often it's just a stupid sleazeball.

That is a tough one. Personally, I would tend to go with "gentlemen's" myself, since gentlemen is the plural. Kate (who has dated a few sleazeballs in her day and none of them made a decent hamburger)
