Subject: Bats in the Belfry Anyone?

I'm looking for a good Poser bat model -- the common variety that flies around and gets tangled in your hair :-) there's only one in the Renderosity marketplace and its hair texture makes it look like a bedroom slipper with wings. Does anyone know of any others out there??? FRED

If you are referring to Brycetech's bat, the fur is separate, you don't have to use it. But, in real life, bats do have fur, so it's nice to have it if you want to use it. Arleen

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

The hair on Brycetech's bat is separate too. Don't load it it if you want a bald bat. Proper rendering will solve the "bedroom slipper with wings" syndrom, it's actually a very nice bat!

There is also this one, but it is on The Animal Kingdom CD by Dedicated Digital. The bat it-self is pretty cool, but is in desparate need of new texturing. Genny

If you want a "close-up bat", Brycetech's bat is wonderful. You can leave the fur off, morph it, play with the wings, whatever. It is pretty darned nifty down to the pug-ugly nose. Having the fur in a slightly different color to the body and playing with opacity and lighting does allow some unique critters. If you need 90 gazillion bats streaming out of the belfry, silhouetted against the moon, filling the Caverns of Sepulchre... then take a peek at Ghastley's free bat. It is very simple, and the wings can separate if you try to move them by tugging at them (only use the dials!!!), but it renders up quickly and is perfect for those group shots where you really don't want to fuss with a lot of hand-tweaking. BTW, there are fish-eating bats in Florida with incredible talons (I used them as my models for the bats in Ultima Underworld 2). Other bats eat fruit, and the best bats eat mosquitoes... lots and lots of mosquitoes. :) Very few bats actually drink blood, chase well-coiffured ladies, or otherwise behave undersirably. Carolly

Thanks for all the info. I bought a Brycetech scorion and everytime I tried to animate the legs they became detached from the body! I think Lucifer the Bat is the way to go. That thing looks incredible! FRED
