Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 4:48 pm)
Oh dear, I hope this doesn't degenerate into another "P5!" "No, P4!" thread... Poser 5 does dynamic hair, and fairly realistic strand-based hair, though it takes a lot of practice to get it working right. Poser 5 also does dynamic cloth, which is, once again, an acquired skill to get working, but when you do get it working, it looks great. Poser 5's got a "Materials Room" that lets you do amazing things with textures, again, with some practice. This includes atmospherics and other cool stuff. Poser 5 has the Firefly render engine, which is slower than the P4 render engine, but does distortion mapping, ray tracing, reflections and refractions, and any number of neat things. P5 also includes the P4 render engine for "quick 'n dirty" renders. Plus, you get the face room (which currently only works with characters included in P5) that lets you generate custom face shapes. So, to sum up- if you don't mind taking a bit of time to learn how to use all the new features, and don't mind waiting on production quality renders (I let mine run overnight), you should check out P5. But be sure you upgrade to the latest Service Release immediately upon installing. The version in the box is rather unstable.

I was wondering what poser 5 offered. I was thinking of upgrading. I hear you can make hair with it. Can you?
