I myself like it and have not had any problems that I can name offhand. Quick render engine, and works much better than I would expect using only a 233Mhz Mac with 240 virtual ram. Great shaders, GREAT user interface. And best of all, got it as the $99 upgrade from RDS which I was still in the process of learning. There is so much to learn, which I enjoy. Problems that I have had, have been mostly due to my being a newbie and still fairly ignorant about some of it.
All the problems I've had I was able to work around them, except for the 3D boolean union of 2 objects in the modeling room. Rendering seems to fail 80% of the time, unless I'm joining the 2 obejcts improperply? Besides that It his a pretty darn good program as I stated before It has some great potential (very user friendly) as matter of fact I do recommended to first timers to the 3D world who's learning on there one and the pricing Is pretty good for what this puppy can do. As Dwayne Edward and Twon Mary-Weather use to say this deserves a "2 SNAPS UP and A TWIST", and If all the bugs were cleared I give Carrara 5 on 5 in 5 star rating. Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease to all!!
The good things: It renders so fast. And the Shader Tree Editor is so powerful and flexible. Extension capability makes it just as powerful as the more expensive Apps. All in all with a really good "patch" it could give 3DSMax and Lightwave a run for it's money. Along with a strong Third-Party support for extensions the skies the limit.

With all of the venting, bitching and gripes I thought that I should post a good note about Carrara and that is that it does have a decent metaball modeler. I can say that it is the easiest one I have used to date and that is reason enough for me to keep holding on to it. I can model metaballs in Carrara far faster than I can in 3DSmax and that is always a plus while being able to export my finished product to any of my other 3D solutions to finish my project. Any other comments on some of the good that Carrara has to offer???
