I have found a new free toy today called Rambooster(v1.6), which I am tickled pink with that one can download it at: http://www.sci.fi/~borg/rambooster/ I have not the fastest machine in the world: Win 98se P800 III with 314 Ram, but works well most of the time. But I have a number of applications that run in the background that I do not like to have not running like my firewall, virus alerts etc. If your Poser is crashing and seizing up due to load CPU resources while you render this is the real answer. You can allocate in the preferences the amount of ram you need to get you up over the hump while you render a big scene. The indicator bar will show you when you are getting low as if Scotty on Star Trek is right there saying "We need Moooorrrre Powerrr Captain! You hit the Optimize button and Bang! Nitro-oxide for your Poser (The Fast and the Furious feel) render.

MemTurbo is great. I tried it out a while ago, and I've been using it ever since. Also helps with renders, as it will defrag and recover ram while you're rendering.

I'm a MemTurbo guy myself. Not free, but well worth the $30, and does have a free trial version.

Isn't it time you Windows 98 people just bit the bullet and upgraded to Win 2000 or XP? This is 2003: your OS is 5 years old, for pete's sake! Memory management isn't the old poor thing about Windows 98 (also known as the Wndows 95 patch). I think they've made just a little improvement in the OS since then! Adding something like "MemTurbo" is like putting a band-aid on a broken arm. Sure, it looks like the problem is solved, but the underlying issue is still there.

I have XP here, and it still helps out tremendously. Sure, XP can expand your VM size on the fly, but it's better to have your ram recovered instead of eating up more hard drive space. It may not be all important, but it does help.

Upgrade the OS? Surely you jest! I myself am a big DOS gamer, so Win98 is the last good OS, note that I make no mention of WinME... oh crap, I just did. However, for those that don't like XP much, like myself, Win2k is quite stable once all the patches are installed, and I'm quite happy with how my computer works, with having a Win98 and Win2k dual boot setup. I can happily play around with Poser on Win2k, and if the need arises for a game of "Sam & Max Hit the Road" or "Day of the Tentacle," bam! there's Win98 just waiting to go to DOS. :D

why not just keep a boot disk handy? or you can easily setup dual boot for say DOS 6.22 and WinXP or 2K. If i wanna play DOS games i just use DOSEmu (with freedos) for linux...works nicely. Better than in msdos infact.
