I'll take all the Daz Freestuff I can use..but I think they're onto us..;) I've noticed a tendency towards Freestuff that requires the Purchase of..;) It's quality stuff, and I appreciate the executable 'don't worry, I'll put everything where it belongs' nature of them..wish other folks did that, free or spendy..;). I can see the bit about maybe some things starting to run together..(after the 10,000th download of something 'different', what are the odds?..;) Don't give up on the freestuff..off to get the clasp, hook, or whatever..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I don't think it's a conspiracy, Mallen, just an understood rule that "Thou shalt not show a fat Vicky", just as "Thou shalt not show a Vicky without perfect makeup". If I needed a model of your typical mother of three who shops at KMart and eats far too much McDonalds, I sure couldn't go to DAZ. Get the point? And it doesn't need much in the way of analyzing, just a little observation. You guys are in a hopeless rut. Period. Hell, look at what you chose for your first "celebrity lookalike". Well, whatever, it's your store, and who am I to tell you what to do? Just a consumer. :🤷:

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 10:26 AM

Actually if you wanted the typical mother of three that eats too much McDonalds you could do it very easily from things at Daz. Sure it isn't pure out of the box with no effort involved but there should be some effort used to create pictures. But all you really have to do it turn some dials etc.

MallenLane ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 10:37 AM

Joey: I'd wager more clothes have the types of morphs you seem to think we 'don't approve' of than not. So your observation seems limited to only those products that will prove your point. Which at this stage your point only seems to be to cause strife, so regretfully I will simply not respond to that line of conversation anylonger. ML

JoeyAristophanes ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 11:03 AM

Whatever, guys. I own a lot of DAZ stuff, and from what I can see, you can't do near what you claim can be. All the dial settings and morphs in the world cannot push and shove that mesh into looking like what it just isn't meant to be. If either of you can prove me wrong, please do so. I'll be happy to admit my error and apologize. But I;m betting that you can't. Show me.

Have you check Ernyoka1's V2 characters in the MP and Freestuff?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 1:11 PM

Gimme a day or two and i will give you pure frumpy housewife. Just busy right now but I might try to do soemthing this afternoon if I get an opening.

JoeyAristophanes ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 1:22 PM

Remember, Ghost: she has to look realistic, not a cartoon. She has to be just as realistic as anything generated for Vicky, and you can use ONLY DAZ materials, nothing third party.

JoeyAristophanes ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 1:36 PM

The only thing I found, RH, was Bertha for V3, which is close, but still a cartoon. And I'll ask: what clothing out there fits this without having to run it through something like Tailor? See, this is the point: all these morphs and dials for V3 are great and wonderfully subtle (if a bit of overkill), but no one thought about things like retrofitting the existing clothing lines to accomodate, just as most of the clothing overlooks the extreme body morphs possible. It's all pretty tightly confined to a limited range, like when Anton posted the human face grid of what's considered "beautiful", as if things can be compartmentalized to a formula. And DAZ follows that formula right down the line, from prefered body shapes to textures. And that's fine -- if I have to go someplace else to get a real, everyday texture (assuming I can't make it myself), then that's what I have to do. But out of all the companies in a position to break into the higher-end, professional world of 3D, DAZ is pretty much blowing the opportunity by confining everything to this narrow little strip. The character proportions they use are exxagerations of fashion models (look at the head to body ratio; it's fashion illustration, not real world), and everything is built around that. Well, that's fine, if that's what you want, and most people do, since DAZ has been real successful with that. But if I needed to create an image of a straight-forward office setting, where the female exec is more average looking and wearing a relatively conservative business skirt and blazer and the man was just an ordinary guy who wears a coat that doesn't have bowling-ball shoulders, I couldn't work with DAZ. I'll underscore: for what they do, DAZ does it real well. I own a lot of DAZ stuff, and it's almost all excellent. But sometimes it's like they're not thinking things completely through when they start work on something. Just my opinion. YMMV.

If you are expecting us, by ourselves, with no third parties, to model everything from a Lands End catalogue, with every V3 morph built in, then you are in for a long wait. Its simply not possible. ;) ML

Not really that much about freestuff but here the render is. There is a freestuff item in here though. Just a quick render and morph job using nothing but Daz stuff. I don't really have a big selection of shoes but they are out there and at Daz.

Excuse me, but Bertha is absolutely NOT a cartoon. If you see her as a cartoon they well... All I can say is that she was not MADE as a cartoon. The hair on the thumbnail may be cartoonish, but in any case it's not included in the package. Oh and WITH Bertha AND the textures I have for sale for the V3 Catsuit (sorry for the ad) well, they were - among other things MADE for the McDonalds-eating Mother of three. Or mother of two as I've only got 2 kids, but I DO eat at McD and yes according to some I AM too fat. Well I look at it this way: I have a nice soft butt to sit on when I'm at my computer LOL Not like my dieting hubby who whines and demands a cushion to sit on... Oh and Steve at PoserWorld has made clothes to fit 2 of my other characters... also in the more chubby style :o) One of the things I LIKE about V3 is that she's so easy to make soft and cuddly instead of skinny and knuckly.

If you see her as a cartoon My apologies, but that's what she looks like in the thumbnail. Sorry. Ghost, I'm amazed. The head is still too small (it's those damn fashion-illustration proportions they use) and the shoulders are too bowling-ball-ish, but it's a credible start. I bow to your work. Seriously. Now I have to ask: how much of this came from the built-in morphs DAZ has for its garments, and how much came from magnet work?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2003 at 8:41 PM

The head can be easily scaled and I like shoulders since they run in my family but it is all built in morphs from the garments. Didn't even hide any parts. And thanks .. It was just a few minutes of work really.

Do you have V3, JoeyA? She can definitely take on a variety of shapes. This image is Daz all the way- Daz Active Wear Shorts, Daz Sleeveless BodyShirt, Daz Hair, Daz skin texture, Daz Cyclorama, Daz shoes, Daz Lighting, Daz Pose, ok, I admit, the texture on the shorts is mine. :P

Trekkie, DAZ has a cartoon female figure named Bertha. I believe that is what was being referred to ... not your Bertha :) everyone else, I remember when, a long long time ago ..people were thrilled to be able to change the bodyshape AT ALL, and never mind the clothing. Few people these days are willing to do two hours of painstaking work just to get one small problem fixed. In my opionion, the artists who want something more extreme will buy the tools they need to do the work they want to make. Tailor makes a number of things easier now ..but where there is a need a tool will be made for it. The Texture Converter came out less than a month after V3 ...not bad for development time. People who expect to open Poser and have everything laid out for them in a one-click format are going to be stuck with 'mainstream' taste. You get out what you are willing to put in. Lyrra

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sun, 01 June 2003 at 9:05 AM

:o) Good guess, Lyrra, but the Daz Bertha is hardly for V3 ;o) whereas MY Bertha is. but you're right I didn't even think about the other Bertha. I originally named MY Bertha after that huge Haubitzer from WW1 :o) called Big Bertha. And I think btw that V3 ie easy to make into a more "real" person, specially with the Morph Expansion pack 1.
