Subject: Mirrored effects??

I have seen mirror effects done in photoshop, where an object has been turned into a mirror, and you can faintly see an image reflected into it. I am at a loss of how to create it. My attempts seem flat, and look more like plastic wrap than a mirror. There is a nice tutorial on this in the Photoshop 6 Wow book, but I have lent mine to a friend :( I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks!

You can do it from scratch or cheat with a plugin. Flaming Pear has a Flood filter that is quite adjustable...rough sea to smooth as glass.

Thanks for the link dreamer, I'll give that a try this afternoon and see if its close to what I'm after.

Flipping a copy of the layer vertically and adjusting the blend mode is a good start to see the first part of a mirror effect. Maybe deform, for perspective. Liquify can help to do subtle distortion. It all depends on what you want to act as a mirror and if the perspective of the scene is a rather frontal view. A lot of times in a mirror (or mirroring objects) you see parts of the reflected object that can't be seen on the original. When that does not occur in a manipulated image, that can be a strong clue to the human eye. Good Luck!
