Subject: Creating Cloth Simulations makes camera and prop fly all over!

pookah69 ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 4:40 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 8:47 AM

I've been experimenting with the cloth room. I place the clothified object in the air above the prop I want it to fall over. Instead, the object flies around the room, and by the 30th frame, it's lying below the level of the ground, instead of falling straight down and colliding against the prop I specified. Any hints? Additionally, the camera, and some of the figures also seem to move around the room after the calculation.

Your sure it's the cloth flying around and not your camera? a simple mistake if you moved it while down the timeline...

No, I'm not sure and I'll have to check on that. But why, when you initiate the "calculate simulation." in the clothroom, does the camera fly around?

lol I hope not! I have not spent alot of time in the cloth room. It just seemed reasonable if your looking through the camera and it is moving then the figures are moving too if they are in the frame. That camera move might be exagerating your cloth to look like its flying around... I'm probably way off though... Is your cloth animated? (I assumed it was) Check the settings... Mainly, that collisions are on.. ground too.. and set in the cloth sim.. everything against everything... place your clothified object as close to the object it will drape over. (if i knew your exact set-up i would give more details) group a select few verts to constrain at any place you think the clothyfied object can rest and stay stuck. assuming youve got a simple object your draping over your sim shouldnt alow the cloth to take off. if you have crazy flapping, thats the dynamic controls and your on your own there... I hope this helps... That is about my sum total of the Cloth Room. lol!

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I will follow your advice and see if this improves the outcome.

I have spent a little time on the cloth room too but i think the reason your objects aren't colliding is because they are both props select the prop you want the clothified object to colide with and go to the setup room, just import the bones of any figure to the prop then go to pose room and your prop should be a figure, now go to the cloth room again and select the clothified prop to collide with the new figure. try it and i hope i don't confuse you lol don't have poser open so i'm trying to explain the way i remember :)

Never mind the cloth room works with both props just tried it with a cube and a cloth prop. Maybe there is something wrong on your settings or maybe how your figures are setup. anyways hope your resolve your problem :)

Heh. Learned that one the hard way. ALways check your animation pallette for an entry for all the cameras you used, and delete the little bugger. Any motion past the initial frame will create a keyframe, and awaaaaaay you go! And if you're set for spline....well, you may actually see what a space warp would look like... :P

Dale, I think you've identified the cause of the problem. Now...how do I remove all subsequent frames after the first one?

3ncryptabl3_lick ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2003 at 9:50 AM

damn! that was my next guess... open the animation palette. if you want ALL frames after frame 1 to be deleted, just click on the topmost timeline frame 2 (or 1 it doesnt matter, poser wont delete frame 1 ever) and drag right and down to include all the frames you want to delete. hit delete. :)

As far as I know, cloth can only collide against figures. I've never gotten it to collide against props. In addition, it's easiest just to move the camera, and uncheck "Animating" in the Properties tab. Saves a lot of time.

The safest way to delete unintended animation for a single object is to left click on the frame 1 square in the animation palette, then go to the end of that row (which should now be a series of 'raised' squares), and hit shift-click, then hit the delete key.
