Don't know if its been done before but I just managed to create this image with a single terrain, 2 lights and a standard sunset atmosphere. For those interested, here's how...

Create a new image. Create a terrain (I did it at 1024*1024). Click the 'Add Function' and change to 'Suburbs' bump. Ok that till the terrain is created. Change the terrain's 'Material' to 'Mirror Building' in the 'Special Effects'. Now raise the terrain vertically until happy with Material's windows (you wont be able to get it perfect). That's it. I used a mixed material to get the roof lines and added some refection and transparency for effect.

That's it.

Give it a go.

Yes, you can create nearly every object in the terrain editor:-). Beautiful sample. It's nice to bring it up here, because most users have never tried to use the terrain editor for something else as "normal" terrain. Guitta

Ingenius. Similar to but even simpler than the method using an import from ZBrush that I used in my "Reconaissance" image. Must give this a try.

holy canoli :) Awesome..not sure how many of you have Bryce, but you can do similar by converting a terrain to a mosaic...but this sure looks 11000% better :) WOW.... Here's a quick one just for trials....I LOVE THIS !!! sorry...put on your shades :)

Hi..Take a look at my first image. The "building in the center...the tall one, has a broken off looking top...I tried doing plateau to it, but is there another way to obtain flat topped roofs ??? Or any other angle for that matter.. With the paint tool in the terrain editor, I would think it possible to get just about any type of shape and structure you could imagine. Playing with the scale and stuff for the "suburbs" filter yields much different results as well. Thanks very much, sacada, for this tip. I just started using Vue and am enjoying it a lot !! :)

and if you export that terrain into a mesh editor, you can modify it, assign or map materials and import it back in as an object. If you assign materials to selected faces and save as .obj, it will import into vue as a multi-object mesh - to which you can assign vue materials.
