Subject: Sound! any free or cheap apps available?

I'm considering getting Vue/Mover or Bryce partialy for the cheap render farm ability but they dont import the sound. Adobe premiere has been suggested to me but its damn expensive, are there any free or at least cheaper alternatives?

You can check out Vegas 4.0 by Sonic Foundry (formerly Vegas Video). It's not free, but it is less than Premiere, and awesomely powerful.

Editstudio is my fave video editor, soon to be hitting its version 4. www.puremotion.com It's cheap, powerful, and easy to use. Plus, the guys there provide amazing help and tech support. If you're after a free vid editor you can always do a search for ABC videoroll.

Ulead Media studio 6.5 "Directors cut". This is a cheaper version of the full Media studio which is very comparible to premiere (I like Ulead better) It has all the features of the full version except the advanced titling aplication, and it has fewer transition and effects plugins (But it still has quite a few.)

doom9.org have a free vid/sound editor called 'virtualdub', I'll give it a try (hey I'm broke ok). Thanks for the suggestions though, all of it was usful.

There's a Cool Edit package out there, though I'm not sure if it does what you're looking for..

No Cool edit is just an audio editor. It can't match up Audio and video together. It is a darn good audio editor though.

Totally awesome wave editor is "Goldwave". I use it to clean up (post-produce) audio files in my home-studio (another spare bedroom hobby). ;-) Google should bring it up with keyword "goldwave". great bargain. Doesn't do video, tho. Happy Renders. Mike

Digidesign has free ProTools LE available for both mac and pc. this is a limited version of their full featured version, however it has LOTS of power. audio editing, plugins, midi tracking. You may not be interested in all the features, but the price is reasonable. FREE. www.ulead.com has has a full range of inexpensive video editing production software ranging from $60-500 depending on the features and level you need. Ulead provides working trial versions of their software so you can see if you like it before dumping a bunch of money.

I bought a 2nd hand copy of Video Wave for 20 from ebay last year, it's very "hobbyist" but has some nice features, and I believe that the new version supports output to DVD. Alla

I use either Pinnacle Expression (30) or Power Director (free with a camera) to stick avi files together, add sound and then render to a disk. They work ok. I also use the Jasc Animation Studio part of Paint Shop Pro 7 (brought for 35 in Game) to create avi files from still images - great for use with poser and it handles the tiff masks!

Just a quicky on Digidesign ProTools LE (free). This is the most awesome audio software available. It is almost identical to the ProTools used throughout the world in the most modern recording studios. Remember the Pro-tools plugin 'AutoTune' made infamous by Cher? But it WON'T work on windows XP/2000/NT. Period. H:)

mouser, if you need any help with VirtualDub, let me know. I've been using it for years.

I use Audacity for Linux (think Soundforge's ACID proggy here), and they got a windows version... see link :) /P

I wouldn't touch Protools with a 50ft barge pole. It was so buggy on my system (Win 98) I almost cried. Goldwave is the way to go, and if I can hype up Editstudio a little more too... :)
