Subject: This is IT?

Today, like any other day, I decided to come browse and converse with my fellow cg artists at my favorite online community, and... EEEEEEKK!!! What the heck happened??? I didn't necessarily love the layout of the original design, but this is far from an improvement. The "logo" is crude compared to the old one. It's also very 2D (contrasting the main theme of this website). It is interesting, but the original was far more creative, original, and visually appealing. This one seems to be more like a mechanical engineering firm or a computer hardware company. The old logo showed the expressive nature of artists, it hinted at a simulated reality, and it paid hommage to the CG software (i.e. a wireframe fading into a rendered hand). Aside from the typography, this logo says nothing about community nor much about modeling or rendering. The drop-down menu for selecting a forum is just a minor inconvenience, but it is an inconvenience none the less - especially if your favorite forum is near the bottom of the list. What is with that detail behind the menu titles? I realize it reflects the 'logo', but that little mechanical joint seems very insignificant and doesn't combine well with the background menu color. Also, the marketplace symbol seems a little misleading - I didn't see an ATM when I first saw it. Sigh... I expected better... Good luck on the expectant remodel - it seems I am not the only one dissappointed here. You have thousands of willing artists at your disposal - try using that resource.

Yeah I have to admit that this is a deprovement instead of an improvement.

Ouch! Myself, I like the new logo. I think it has a nice quality and professional style. My one complaint is, that I hope they change the rest of the headers in the galleries. The Bryce gal which I visit a lot is still the old colors and looks very outdated. I guess its the same old thing. Art is SUBJECTIVE. One sees Picasso and thinks great artist, others see a talentless hack... lol.

The complete place looks a little bit "sad" IMHO. Looks more like CGTalk... Well, I guess we were used to the old layout... Although I believe there were some other logos better than this one :-)

i would suggest that you go easy on the new layout specifically the new pictures. there was an extensive search, in the form of a contest, that resulted in a a site wide vote. so eric they did tap the artist community here and if your so into the essence of 3d you should show a little respect for the art of others.

I don't dislike the new look, neither do I like it more than the previus one... but honestly there's something I would not have realized if I didn't came to this thread...
probably because I'm too dumb... dunno... but I didn't realize that the marketplace link was an ATM until I read the first msg of this thread and checked the link.
I'm not saying this is worst nor better than the previous one... I believe is balanced... somethings I like more than before, other things I don't. But I believe the developers of the site can't do something that pleases EVERYONE, they can only do something that pleases the majority, and that's NOT their fault, it's just reality.
If we all thought in the same way...
EVERYTHING WOULD BE JUST TOO BORING :)
