Hi I just found this article on the BBC web site and given the problems we have had over the site design I thorght you may find this interesting Dave

Interesting, but the article ignores the fact that sites that provide high functionality don't need attractive site layout, just good navigation. Just look at e-bay, grotesque to look at, but because it provides an excellent service nobody cares. In fact, weighing a site down with graphics would reduce its popularity. I suppose it depends what fields you're in, but I'm always wary of generic surveys because they tend to generlise to the point of uselessness.

Hi I didn't post the link if you like for the existing members , we after all know what this site is about. The thing I found interesting was the comments about people surfing generally, their response to the way a site looks and how long they spend there after their first impression. This seemed to back up a number of comments which were made by other members here with regard to the new layout by more particularly the default colours etc. I agree with Tafkat that increased graphics weigh things down and become annoying but I do think things like the colour scheme brightness/contrast and menu options ie forum access ( pull downs etc) the general overall look of a site , might make new people less likely to stay and then customise the site for themselves. just my opinion but I did think the article might be useful Dave
