Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 17 6:51 am)
UVMapper pro if you want to make your own maps and DEFINATELY if you want to create your own models! Tailor1.5 if you plan on sharing V1/2 clothes with V3 and even just to transfer custom (or any) morphs to clothes that don't have them. Universal Texture Converter if you have both V1/2 and V3 (and more abilities on the way) is MUST! INJectinPoseBuilder if you have V3. Mimic2 (or Pro) if you want to make them talk ;p Freebies: Mover (must get) MatPoseEdit CR2Editor Morph Squeeze Morph Manager Morph Mirror P3do Explorer PhiBuilder Elefont Spiral Generator Plant Studio Scaler Programer's Text Editor (I like it, others prefer EditPad or NotTab) FurFur (just for fun) -These are the ones I have loaded, am I missing any?
PWizard is really great for conforming clothes. And there is an Easy Pose Wizard as an add on for it. UVMapper, pro or not is IMO necessary also. And consider the new Auto Group Editor too. At least I think it's easier to use than UVMapper when it comes to grouping clothes. But of course if you make characters and not clothes you may live happily without it LOL for a while... And no I am not sponsored or in other ways afiliated with any of the above programs or their creators.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
If you have a modelling program and either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, then you already have pretty much everything you need to get started. If you're building models, any sort of models (props, figures etc), for Poser then I strongly recommend UVMapper Pro. I bought it relatively recently and I wish I'd done it long ago. Start with the free version and once you've had a chance to get to know it, look at buying Pro, because it really is a lot more powerful. Most of the other absolutely essential utilities are free: PHI Builder, MorphManager, MAT pose edit, P3DO and a few others that can occasionally be useful such as cr2 Editor and CorrectReference . If you want to make clothing for the millenium figures then Tailor (sold at DAZ) could be a useful investment to give your clothing morphs to match those in the figure who wears it. It's a great program. As far as I know, there isn't really much overlap between my EasyPose Underground and any other commercial utilities (other than my EasyPose Wizard, which does a small part of what Underground does), but, as you already know, I don't recommend Underground until you're sure you know what you want it for. At the moment that means EasyPose set-up, general ERC set-up or (in a few weeks time) switching geometry. It does other things as well, but it's primarily focussed on things you won't need to do until you get into advanced figure making. I'm very happy to say that many of the best known Poser figure makers use it regularly, but that doesn't mean you need to race into it straight away. In any case, I plan to have a demo version out in about a month's time, so you'll be able to get a hands on feel for what it does. What sort of figures do you plan to make? If you have something specific in mind, I might have other recommendations.

For posing: my XprssnMagics are unique in that they are freestanding applications that let you combine and preview eye and mouth expressions to quickly create hundreds of combinations, then paste into Poser - with no library clutter. XprssnMagics for the various Millennium figures are in DAZ's software section and for P4FemMagic in my store here; plan to finish one for P5JudyMagic when I have more time. HTH - Elisa/gryffnn
Markdc's new Auto Group Editor is a must. In fact, it's good for more than clothes (though its GREAT for that). The symmetrical selection feature can be invaluable when grouping figures themselves. - Renderosity Marketplace UV Mapper Pro 2.0v is essential. You can get by with the free, non-Pro version, but its not nearly as good. What's more, UVMP 3 is coming soon and sounds to be even more powerful. - http://www.uvmapper.com (Check out the forums there, too) Cr2Editor 1.51 should be pretty self-explanatory. A hell of a lot easier than working in Wordpad or whatever. Version 1.52 is available here in Free Stuff I think, but it's said to be rather buggy, so I'd suggestr getting 1.51, which is available at the PoserTECH Yahoo group. - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PoserTECH/ (FREE) P-Wizard includes several free wizards (some of which you need to download from Kattman's site). Together they make this another must-have. - Renderosity Marketplace, PoserPros Store, and maybe elsewhere? Some of the other apps mentioned above can be pretty useful, too, depending on what you're doing and how you're doing it. P3DO Explorer Morph Manager MT Mirror Correct Reference Grouper MeTaL Fixer Objaction Mover RTE Encoder (All FREE)
Btw, while you might need Objaction Mover for some downloaded stuff, it's not for commercial use, I think. Russell Cook's RTEncoder, on the other hand, is, not to mention far more versatile. You can pick that up free at http://poserpros.com, in the Free Stuff Club section (not really a club;)). PHI Builder you'll only need if you use the old PHI method of creating characters and not the Setup Room or some other method. But having tried several ways, I find that I still like the PHI method best. And Grouper and MeTaL Fixer you'd only use when exporting stuff to Bryce or wherever. But they can be pretty handy for that.:) P3DO is mostly just a Poser explorer app, but the RSR-to-PNG (and vice-versa) plug-in can be real handy. I use P4Pro Pack and P5, so this is a real easy way to create RSR's for people still using P4 standard (or even P3).
I hadn't heard of MeTaL fixer before. That looks really useful. Thanks x2000 :-)

The utilities I find more or less essential are: A good text editor (I use EditPad Lite). Morph Manager Mat Pose Edit UVMapper CR2Builder These are all (except EditPad) available here through the Free Stuff. Apart from those mentioned above it depends on what you want to do. A modelling application to make morphs and meshes is a good thing to have.
Go to the 3d links section of the Forums, and download the 'text' file I've put there. It has most of the URL's listed for the programs above, under 'utilities', and beacoup others for Poser, etc. Just rename it to a .htm file, and load it through your browser. have fun.

I have seen a lot of utilities for sale in the Marketplace and at Daz, so many infact that it is confusing. I would like to know which utilites (PWizard, EasyPose, UVMapper Pro,etc....) do others find useful for Character creation and/or Posing? Seems to me some of them overlap each other and I don't want to end up purchasing two products that do the same thing. Thank You.
