http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12368&Form.ShowMessage=1346073 You mean I will be able to import Pz3, 3DS, LWO in Vue 4 and do all kinds of new things with these files, yet still not be able to export them? (Ha!)

Since I assume most people know about Vue by now, I've posted a link to Amapi 7, which it appears Vue will be integrated with. Hum?

Hummmmm, even more! Could Vue-Pz3 files be moved into Carrara with this link-up? Resolving finally the Ancient Metacreations Idea (if they ever actually had it) of linking up Poser with Ray Dream (Carrara)?

hmmm, interesting.

Ainle ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 4:23 PM

This appears to be a joint marketing announcement, not a product integration. While Vue will import 3DS, OBJ and the like, Amapi will not handle VOBs. Pity, since I use both programs....

bijouchat ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 4:26 PM

I don't use Vue. I have Amapi 7 Designer and use Carrara, however. I just went and blew out on Carrara 3, because I am more interested in the lighting model. Vue has great landscape generation and better skies, but I like Carrara's lighting better.

Since Amapi has made it clear that it's no longer interested in producing OBJ files that Poser can use, I don't see any great advantage in such an alliance!

Key Quote- Something to Ponder- E-on software has decided to continue its technological cooperation with Eovia and, as a result, have combined their two flagship products Amapi Designer 7 & Vue d'Esprit 4! The profits of our continued partnership, wherein the technology of both our software is integrated, will benefit the users themselves and the productivity of the software as a whole.

bijouchat ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:28 PM

its just a bundle, nothing more. And perhaps... a plugin/export utility like we've got for Amapi to Carrara already. Something I rarely use, as I model in polygons for export to Poser or render in Carrara (usually both), not in NURBS, where it would be more useful. As for objs Poser can use... that's what Carrara is good at. I always run my objs through Carrara before sending on to Poser. You can also morph in Carrara, and C3 is getting a long awaited boost to the vertex modeller. Though probably programs such as Rhino are better... for me, good old Poser magnets are my favourite morph tool of choice, believe it or not. don't see a need for Vue here. It seems to me a marketing scheme.

I think there is more to it than a "bundling" scheme. Using the phrase "our software (will be) integrated" seems to suggest a lot more than bundling. I don't own Carrara, but still have my old RayDream- used almost totally for getting all of the old RayDream (and Zygote) CD library models out of RD and into Vue and Poser. A joint relationship would make a lot of sense when you think about it. Being able to pass a model through all three programs with textures, etc. would give people a heck of a lot of rendering options. Just think about it.

Veritas777 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 8:44 PM

Actually, if you carry through the above line of thinking, a buyout of Curious Labs by a Vue-Eovia consortium, would make this whole deal perfect! Instead of Curious Labs struggling to patch together software, why not turn it over to a group who could actually do the programming to fix everything and give a new "Poser 6" a complete and total make-over. Or, would there even be a NEED for a Poser 6? Perhaps this is also why DAZ Studio is constantly "pushed back?" Are there rumblings of a big "3D Re-Alignment?" in the making? (Wouldn't hurt DAZ really, as they are primarily a 3D model making company.)

bijouchat ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 8:46 PM

yeah... it would. The atmospherics and terrain generation in Vue are unbeatable. I tend to cheap out and use Terragen for generating terrains for import to Carrara, its good at that. Just the rendering in Carrara is better... and soon to be EVEN better with HDRI in v3. Only so much money here, I spent it on the new Carrara upgrade.

bijouchat ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 8:51 PM

hmm, I don't know. Eovia is a really good company, I'm in with Eovia for the long haul. I'm happy with their products. I could hope they buy Poser off CL... lol.

After checking out the new Carrara 3, I am pretty impressed! I know some people might think I'm here pushing Carrara, but I haven't cared much for it until I saw the new Cel Shade Illustration and HDRI features. (see link) If you could move Poser totally into that environment, tied in with Vue Scenes and Amapi (I'm not a modeler, myself), it would be a pretty impressive Powerhouse, I think. Keep in mind that Vue has some pretty impressive programming talent with Plants and Trees and has for years made Atmosphere plug-in software for Lightwave. Could be a pretty impressive software alignment! Also, keep in mind that Eovia is own by TGS, so they probably have some capital available from investors.

bijouchat ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:54 PM

yup, I upgraded already to C3 and am eagerly awaiting my beta disk... lol. I would love to have a plugin for Poser to Carrara... Carrara is my favourite app for rendering, even version 2.1 is good. Its just not so easy to figure how to get Poser stuff in there... I figured out an easy way, though. But its still not perfect for doing animation... I really need a plugin for animation.

Veritas777 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:02 PM

That's another strong ability that Vue brings to the table- excellent Poser import ability and surprisingly good Poser animation within Vue. I'm sure a Vue-Eovia team could make all this stuff work pretty well. Again folks, I'm not pushing these programs! I'm just interested in seeing things finally work the way most people want them to. Whoever can do it is fine with me. I would rather buy a Carrara 3 upgrade than an upgrade to 3DStudio or Lightwave (I own both, but not current versions)

bijouchat ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:06 PM

well, I am not overreacting... but I am cautiously optimistic. I know a third party is working on Poser to Carrara import already. I don't need Vue, though its really nice... just need something to get Poser animation into Carrara to render.

For what it's worth, I sent an email off to Jim Lumley of Eovia last week. I had a few questions regarding Carrara 3 that I was hoping he could answer and he was quite helfpul.

Most of my email had to do with various pricing issues, but I did ask one question about Carrara/Poser integration.

Here's the relevant quote in the email I got back from Jim:

--
"3. Within a short time after Curious Labs releases Poser 5 for the MAC Platform you will see an announcement of a plug-in for the two products."

ok, wooohooo. now, is Goudeau going to arrive before P5 for Mac is available ... sniff, sniff. (I have P5 for Windoze) wonder if its going to be free or not... probably not... but I can hope.
