What is your prefered size [pixel width and height] and resolition [dpi] when using a Photo Background for Poser? ladynimue

well.. all my original image files are about 3000x4000 at 300 dpi..so I guess that would be it for me.. ie HUGE ;p But I rarely use photo backgrounds.. so I don't know :)

anything that keeps the 4:3 ratio over 2000 pixels is good

Batronyx ( ) posted Sat, 26 July 2003 at 10:31 AM

Unless it's just waaaay to tiny, if the quality is good and appeals to me, I'll use it. Bigger is probably better as you scale down without losing quality. The reverse is not true.

I've had really mixed success with using photos as backdrops...my camera is a Canon Sureshot and I can use the size photos it takes-- 1704 by 2272 -- without pixelation, but I've DLed ones from free sites online that had the same posted size pixelate badly. So I'm not sure what the determining factor is...DPI maybe??

I really appreciate your feed-back on this. ladynimue

When I'm working for a quick pic and have renderosity in mind, 800x600x72. If I decide to use it for a print, then whatever it takes for a 300 dpi final in the pixel size for the print.

EricofSD ( ) posted Sat, 26 July 2003 at 11:51 PM

ie, 5400x3750x72 converts to a 12.5 x 18 x 300 print real nice. Unfortunately, not all software products go that high.

Patricia, too much compression on a jpeg can make 'em crappy, since it's a lossy form of compression. ladynimue, you're welcome.

ladynim, I usually try to have the background double the size of the finished render... or at least 50% larger when it goes over 2048X.. something about Poser dithering the background if it's the same size you end up with stairsteps 8 but if it's at least 50% larger.. the stairstepping isn't as prevelant... Good luck Cheers
