Subject: saving .obj files in poser5

Hi I have a problem with textures and materials then I save props as .obj files to create props. I have poser 5 sr3 and I has been making some props by using the group editor on a prop and adding some other props. Saving this as a .obj file and then importing it to get one prop. The problem is that the textures are missing and the materials is gone. The remaining materials are each old object not the texture groups from the previous props. I tried to mark all checkboxes without the save as morph target. This worked for poser 4 but is it problems with poser 5, Does anybody know how to do this Magne

The problem with the Wavefront .obj file format is that it was created years ago, and doesn't store all the material information you need.

Back in Poser 4, the only thing we really had to worry about losing was transparency and transmaps. Poser 5 adds dozens of new material settings, including the infinite combinations of shader nodes and procedurals, and there is no way to put these in the .obj and .mtl files.

In the past, I've gotten tricky by first saving the scene as a .pz3 file, then exporting the elements as an .obj file, reimporting the .obj and saving it as a Poser prop, and then finally manually editing the prop file, cutting-and-pasting the material section from the .pz3 to the .pp2.

Hi Thank for your answer. I imagined that was part of the problem, I think I understand the other one. I mix up materials and groups from the group editor. Then I save a .obj file, the texture names is preserved, and equal named textures for props is joined. The original groups from the group editor are gone and each of the original props is now a group in the group editor. Another question. Is there an easy way to merge two props to one so I can use it as a smart prop? I can parent props to each other, but still got all the decoration props in the prop list and I loose the smart prop possibility. I know it is a merge function in the group editor, but has never been able to use it. Magne
